Default Dumb Mod Question

Hi guys. I tried to use the search to find the answer to my question, but ended up confused.

I want to install ROW but I'm not sure what to install or how. I went to the thread in the modders forum that Dave started (and now has become a memorial to him. I'm not sure what I'm supposed to download or how to install it. Can anyone help?

Default Not a dumb question at all

You're not the first to ask that question and certainly not the first to be confused by the mod situation!! LOL. If you check the Trigger Maru and/or the RSRD forums you'll see some posts which give "preferred" lists of mods including ROW and in which order to activate them etc.

ROW has evolved into numerous mods and there doesn't seem to be an "all-inclusive" ROW mod file so I've avoided all except a couple of ROW mods (and because TM apparently incorporates a bunch).

I'm sure one of the resident mod gurus will point you in the right direction.

Not to worry! Its gotten complex. I am at work. When I get home I can post my JSGME Mod list and you can go from there. I have currently tested all the new stuff for ROW on two installs one with RFB and the other with TM.

Its all working good and looks really nice. You will get an answer and yes there are a lot of choices!

I'm just jumping on the band wagon here. I'm running vanilla 1.4 and think that ROW would be a good place for me to dip my toes into the mod water.

I run on a laptop, and get pretty good fps with vanilla and the graphics set to medium. Is ROW a fps killer for the improved look?

Cheers,
Dave

Awesome. I look forward to the list.

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one struggling with mods.

*bump*

I'm interested in learning how to install ROW as well. I'm running the stock game, and I'm ready to step up to the mod world. ROW feels like a great place to start, so some clear instructions would be great.

I have a dumb mod question, relating to ROW, myself.

I read that it primarily optimizes nVidia cards. I have an ATI Radeon 256MB card. Am I wasting my time?

I already downloaded a good number of ROW files and tried to install them with JSME (or whatever it's called...you guys know what I'm talking about). The only result was my game crashed to desktop. I really didn't see any eye-candy.

Then something went wrong with the installation.
Disable the mods and check to see if they were put into the MODS folder correctly.

@Scurvy: I agree with McBeck about your CTD issues. As for having an ATi, now worries. I have an ATi too, all you miss is effects such as sun glare and/or camera lens flare. Otherwise it looks damn good.
Also, if you want the complete ROW package, make sure to grab kriller2's lates work as well (as Wilcke pointed out a few posts up), either the Addon for Reflections near the bottom of the 1st post of the ROW thread, or Pacific Environment for ROW, found near the beginning of the same post. It contains, among others, some bugfixes that Dave didn't iron out before he passed.

@Schlippittz: Yep. All the Single Missions and War Patrols have new names. You can't miss it (unless you've never, ever checked either of those).

Heh, I've never checked any of those. I just delved straight into my career.

I added a bunch of RoW stuff, but it dropped my FPS from 45-50 to 12-15. It's pretty, but it's gonna have to be uninstalled.

Try uninstalling only kriller2's hi-res seafoam. That's a known FPS-killer. Otherwise you shouldn't have any problems with ROW; I use it and my machine is bloody OLD.
Ok...if you have RSRDC installed, you should see, in Single Mission, names such as "FBM 420604 USS Nautilus (SS-168)".
