I tried using VC in Sub Command. For some reason it recognized every slight noise or whisper as the "go deep" command. I find it works somewhat as long as you try to explicitly pronounce each syllable, but the "go deep" thing was annoying for me.

I don't think I'll use it in DW, its more of just a toy anyway as I can do everything faster with the mouse.

Casting a spell of thread resurrection...

1. Can you change the game's pre-loaded voice commands? I've been perturbed by the "close but not quite" terminology match between standard Navy helm orders and the ones that the game uses.

2. I actually find the voice command's tendency to miss what you've said under stress or when you're talking fast is a good simulation of what can happen during a casualty. Sometimes people don't hear or hear the wrong thing. That's one reason why crews spend so much time training together and practicing standardized verbal commands.

Anyone remember the "Submarine Interior Communications" Manual?

<grin> Never said "fun". Said "good simulation". It is distinctly *not* fun to be in a flooding casualty or a fire and not understand what you need to do next. The heavy annoyance factor is a good reason to make Voice Command optional.

With DW, I use the speech key instead of "always on". Never had a problem with the crew doing things when I said nothing. My problems are forgetting the stock voice commands (b/c I'm used to similiar but different ones) and the computer misunderstanding what I say if I talk to fast.

Yep, that is the only way, or the thing must pickup any background noise and interprets it to be a valid command.
