They often refer to historical events, so I use them with SH3 Commander's date folder.

My mother says she listened to him, during the war, and agrees he was generally seen as a ridiculous character, who boosted British morale, rather than breaking it.

Not true of all Nazi propaganda, however. Anybody heard of Axis Sally, whose broadcasts were intended for the Americans - not so funny. She well deserved her long prison sentence, I think.

Yes, jimbuna - His hanging was controversial, as he was Irish-American not British. The rights & wrongs of his fate are still discussed, to this day, as in this BBC article
