I also use the randomized time-in-port function from Commander. I try to use all my torpedoes as well, but sometimes...

I once had a patrol in a Type II in which I was running very low on fuel and hadn't seen a single enemy ship. I pulled back into Kiel with a full load of eels, and they had me back on patrol again after just five days.

I usually spend a minimum of 30 days in port.

There you go: http://jonesoft.jaennahre.com
Just be careful because there are some files you have to replace in the program if you use GWX, but I don't know where you can get them, probably from the same place.

When does the "days in port between patrols" option in SH3 Commander work?
I have saved my patrol just before ending my patrol and changed the days spent in port to 40 and restarted and loaded the patrol and ended the campaign but I am only 15 days in port

What went wrong?

I don't use any mods except Longer Repair Times (GWX compatible version).

Yep same mate had that happen. Using Commander as well on random

Frustrating but it sure does test ya patience when ya play a DID type game. Too much a bull at the gate on the next patrol and good times can go bad real quick

I use a type IID, so I'm only gone 10-14 days each patrol. I stay in port for one month exactly.

I RTB as soon as all torpedos are shot, fuel is empty or at latest after the appropriate original patrol time of that uboot type, that I am playing.

A type II was designed for up to 21 days, type VII for 6 to 8 weeks.
IX is something that I would have to read again.

XXI should be at least 12 weeks... but again I am not sure

I stay out until all the eels are used then have a 30 day stopover for rest and
replenishment

I've never had to return to port because of fuel reasons, I'm very careful with my diesel...

I usually start heading for home when I have 1 or 2 eels left, 1 aft and 1 forward, or just the 1 aft. This is because I tend to hang around in places like am36, the Irish sea and other traffic-heavy shallow water areas.

In those types of patrols I've never not met something juicy on the way back, so it's nice to be able to sink it.

Nothing is quite so frustrating as seeing HMS Hood limping into Loch Ewe at 5 knots because I smacked her up good with three eels a few days earlier, but didn't quite take her to the bottom, having to give up the chase because of foul weather.
And then having spent my last eel two hours ealier on a tug of all things....

Same goes for those long long patrols (50 days or more) to the Carribean, you want to have at least one eel to take out any interfering DDs in Biscay hampering your triumphant return..
