How about a Christmas DVD boxed set of SH3 with no SF and SH4 patched to 1.4? Now wouldn't that be nice!

You seem to be in the know about the 1.4 patch, TDK1044. I know you say you can't comment further, but maybe you could give a ballpark figure on a release date or announcement. Will it be a few days, weeks or what? I'm dying to know.

I have to say that as much as I like the graphical environment of SHIV it still doesn't have SHIII's appeal.

In SHIV I TC across to Japan, scout about, sink some ships and TC back to base. I do this because i find the theatre dull and just want to sink ships.

In SHIII I sail out of my base knowing that i'm gonna have a hell of a patrol against a more than capable adversary and that I have to really work hard to achieve tonnage. The tension and emmersion of SHIII just blows SHIV out of the water in my view and no SHIV patch will change my oppinion on this.

That said, this is only my view and i'm an Atlantic Theatre fan with little interest in the Pacific Theatre. I would happily play SHIV all the time once the Atlantic Sharks have adpated it to the Atlantic Theatre.

For me SH4 looks better (and I like good graphics) but SH3 plays better. At the moment.

But ... SH4 is young, and if something like the Atlantic Sharks gets released I bet nearly all will leave SH3 behind.

Honestly, cdrsubron7, it's in Ubisoft's control, but I'd certainly be looking at sooner rather than later.

I suppose that its really a matter of choice. Whether you're a Atlantic guy or a PTO guy. I played SHIII for quite awhile until SHIV came out and haven't play SHII since, but enjoyed my time playing when I did. Nothing against SHIII, I've always been more interested in the Pacific.

I think the the initial bad press that SH4 received LV is still having an effect. The early days turned many people off, so those folks or at least some of them, went to SH3. Even here, there were probably twice as many negative threads as positive ones back in March and for the first few months.

What a difference time, patch 1.3 and many great mods have mads. Slowly but surely folks are coming back and realizing that SH4 is a great game\experience. Yes, some folks are still going to SH3, but that speaks mountains for that game, it is a hell of an experience( I still play it ), but with the anticipated patch and continued modding, I believe SH4 will far eclipse SH3, isn't that what we want in the end, for each sim to be better than the last, regardless of what theatre it is in.

Just some thoughts.

Maybe if the devs still come here and see what you described this can tell them that they shouldnt forget about SH3, that it has a lot of things which should be in SH4 but arent (most important: IMMERSION - for gods sake).
And it not necesarily means that by choosing the Pacific they did a mistake...

And i dont think they will abandon SH4 completly because people talks SH3 too much.

I own and enjoy both 3 and 4. I've recently purchased a new game machine and 4 runs fantastic. I would just love to install 3 but my new OS is Vista and I am really concerned that SF will screw up my new system. I really wish the guys at UBI would release something in the near future to do away with SF so I can get back in the Atlantic. This Silent Hunter series, with the work of the modders, just keeps getting better.

LOL, I doubt it. There's too many new developments happening in SH3 for it to quietly disappear under the waves.
Don't be so sure friend....I think quite a few, if not all, will be pleasently surprised. Have you ever heard the saying, 'The world is your ocean?'

I'm very sure.

True, I have not seen the 1.4 patch for SH4 but you have not seen the latest work from GWX either.

There is no way that SH3 will be forgotten so soon.

EDIT - Quote is not representive as you added while I was posting.

Regardless of varying opinions on SH3\4, this place, SUBSIM, is better off for having great sims for folks to experience. What folks choose to play is their choice in
the end

Reading between the lines here gives me a rather large impression that maybe the two sims could be merged in patch 1.4?

But then again, that's a rather large impression...
