I somehow feel my SH3 GWX 1.03 is a little broken. As I told you guys I attacked Port Said with 7 destroyers attacking me. Well I broke into the canal and all the destroyers run ashore, most of them sunk themselves.

Raiding the harbour was very easy, only a Dido, a V&W and a trawler to defend the merchants.

Anyway, all the surrounding batteries didn't fire at me, they never do in my game. I can easily raid any harbour as long as I get away from the destroyers on patrol.

So I think sailing through the Suez Canal might be easy, as long as inside there are no destroyers (or they sink themselves).

BTW, another strange thing, I have the Funkmessgerät on board now telling me radio signals around me. When I look on the map I see the direction of the signals and - surprise - I often see a ship-sinking sign soon afterwards. Seems as if I have a super-laser-weapon on board and kill all those radio signals... Or is that a ship attacked by another sub maybe? Of course I don't get credit for sinking that ship. Could also be an airplane that went down... :hmm:

There is a high chance you have a faulty installation or some residue files left over from something you were using earlier

Are you referring to Port Said harbour, The Bitter Lakes (the part in the middle where northbound and southbound convoys pass each other), or the actual canal passage itself ? :hmm:
Believe you me, it won't be easy if your transitting south through the canal and you come across a northbound convoy heading for the Med

I made a fresh installation, there should be no leftovers, actually. Who knows...

You're right, passing a whole convoy might be difficult. How deep is the Canal? :hmm:

Also tell Bernard NOT to put the German navy flag on your U-boat, but the Royal Navy one instead.
Try playing the tippeary (sp?) song too lol..."hey, we're in the royal navy"...if it can make the crew of U-96 think they're in the RN should fool the tommies lol.

Don't forget that if you save the game with ships in harbours, when you come back to it later - upon reloading the saved game - the ships will have lost their tasking and will run straight into the beach.

I noticed this when I was leaving Kiel. After reloading a patrol saved 10 sec into the mission, the escort ships always ran aground. Silly surface vessels!

To prevent them losing their 'waypoints' you should be approx 50 km away

Yep never save within at least 50km of a port as Jim said

Warships running aground is a limitation of the SH3 engine
" ground " isnt recognised by the units
They will head for a contact in a straight line no matter whats in the way
Ports\ground anything
Sometimes the anti collision routine will force one unit aground so as to avoid another
Stupid I know

Nothing can be done about that though

I've tried that in an IXB.

Don't do it.

'Nuff said.

I'm honored to inform dear captains that Suez Channel has been crossed at. 4.10 am 10 february 1943 without any causalties. Light enemy forces presence in channel. Two British destroyers downed. Details later, of course if you'll be interested. (U-106, type IX C, La Spezia, 28 patrol, 23-rd flotilla, since 01.09.1939 in service, still alive)

February 1943, The entrance to the channel is heavy guarded. There is 10 to 12 DD's and Flower Corvets. I've started my approach at 9.00 about 10 km from the entrance. I was very patient, silent speed, many engine turn offs, and miiiiiiinutes of waiting. When I was about 2 km from the entrance DD had detected me and started it's run. It was hell. I really looked death right in the eyes , DD droped depth charges and I thought to my self ... it's the end of my brilliant career but ...... DD missed. Great God I couldn't belive it, it almost run over me, only 15 m deep and I'm still alive?. DD droped charges too early, but I did proper use of my aft tube. One DD was gone. In response 4 DD came after me and some planes too, but I managed to reach channel and entered it from it's left support channel or sth. Channel defences are: 4 stationary artillery batteries, 4 stationary searchlights. At Port Said I report presence of: 1 Greek Heavy Cruiser, 1 Dido Class Cruiser, 1 DD, 1 troop transport, 1 small tanker, 1 med tanker and some merchants including 1 large marchant, 1 C3 etc. All about 10 ships. I also report heavy enemy air forces activity. Channel depth is about 15 m. Width about 150 m. Enemy activity in the channel is rather low. In the middle of the channel there is, let's say "lake". There were 3 DD'd guarding it. I downed one of them. They are really prepared and ready. One of them (the dead one) detected me, so ... my aft tube fired again. The second one came fast after me but ... funny ... British Airforce save my ...tail. One of planes droped it's payload right on the second DD. Due to attack DD was heavily damaged and broke off the attack meanwhile fighting with heavy flooding. The third DD didn't atack to avoid possible fiendly fire. I sailed away on silence speed, so I'm in His Majesty Air forces debt. At the exit of the Channel there are 2 stationary artillery batterries and 2 stationary searchlights. There're also 2 DD's guarding it. One of them .. on the bottom Crossing channel everytime be aware of enemy planes patrols and prepared to dive. But be careful there is only 15 m deep. Crossing is time and fuel consuming, especially approaching the entrance. I've crossed the channel at night almost at full speed, not mentioned "lake". Nevertheless it's possible to reach Penang (starting point La Spezia) but you have to pay carefull attention to your fuel reserves. Wish you good luck captains. See you on the ...beach:rotfl:
