Yeah, I had a friend that played COD2 with me, and then he tried WoW....and I never see him. That said, when Pirates of The Burning Sea comes out, I will be lost to that.

Hey there was a choice of North American or Oceanic, i chose NA, does it really matter which one? Anyways great game, graphics are pretty cartoony, but this is overlooked once you enter and start playing, seeing other players doing their thing in the game is pretty cool, i died twice last night lol raided a cave and got owned helping another player.
Been a Guildwars player since 2005 i shouldn't compare WOW with GW yet being only a level 6, but theirs something about this game.
In GW you only interact with other players when you do a co-op mission otherwise your on your own with henchies, in WOW your always with players running around. WOW has that social thing which is well done. I stood in awe at these level 70 Orc players last night standing around, dressed in elite looking armor, and i witness a raid by a level 70 player in another server with a nightelf character, this guy attacks our noob camp and practically takes us all out, including the quest givers! lol.
I joined the PVP servers cause i always want to have that fear that someone is going to attack me when out hunting

Great game!

I finally gave wow a chance and its pretty fun. The trick is to play with your buddies over some kind of VOIP program. Me and 3 of my mates started characters and have been questing a lot together. Quite fun really. But I can imagine how it must suck playing alone

I've been playing fairly regularly for about 3 years now.

The biggest reasons I'm not burned out on the whole thing is making alts is always fun and most importantly - being in a guild with personal friends of mine & others I've gamed with for some time in the past.

I still take breaks both small and large at times so I'm not a total fiend. Besides, my attention span wouldn't allow me to starve myself to death over playing it.

You might find you will grow tired of that, when dealing with camped money grinding spots, or trying to do a quest and being unable to because 20 other people are trying to do the exact same quest and camped all over the spawn areas making a quest that should take a few minutes take an hour or more. At least though most of the "dungeons" are instanced so you dont have to deal with that.

As for alts, heh i had piles of alts, i never actualy reached 60 with any character in the 7 months i played, i had the max number of alts allowed on the server (on 2 different servers) with a combined level of around 400+ In the end the class i liked best was the druid, just because of the variation of play style available to that class. Though people trying to force me to be a heal bot ticked me off (i was feral spec)

I can see why your sucked into the gameplay tho, its repetitive questing like any other mmorpg i suppose, hrs tick by next thing you know 10hrs later & the suns coming up. In Guildwars your get a nice message coming up reminding you have been playing for over 2 hrs please take a break. I notice this warning is absent from wow.

Im taking a break from wow every 2nd day, othewise i can see myself playing this every minute of my daytime and night. While im typeing this im thinking of ways of leveling up my character :rotfl:The gameworld is massive in wow thats one thing that actually frighten me, i love to run around and explore in these type of games, i better get that idea out of my head as it would take me years to explore the whole of WOW. Guildwars world is tiny compare to wow.

Hate to say it but it is a GREAT GAME ive met alot of ppl in the cities that aren't young either alot in the 30+ age group, one guy who char is lvl 60 Dwarf is 67 been playing it since it came out.

Honestly i wouldnt call the WoW realm massive, SWG was massive (though mostly empty). Exploring is fun though

As for the warnings, they arnt there because Blizzard wants addicts, who will keep playing, paying, and especialy those that own 3 copies for alts and mules. Repetition is what makes it addictive. People keep playing to get that last set piece or other object, or that next rank in pvp, then a new and better set comes out so they spend months doing raids to get it, etc.

One thing that always troubled me with the MMO games is how carefully they are designed to addict you and keep you addicted, spending massive amounts of time in these games at the expensive of a life, or even your health. There have been several deaths, and other severe illnesses connected with WoW because people were playing these games for days at a time forgetting to eat, sleep, exercise, etc.

If you look closely at WoW you can see how it addicts and why it is so successfull at doing it. First the game requires a massive commitment of time to get anywhere in it, second the game is repeditive to the extreme (and repeating the same thing especialy if the brain finds it pleasurable will quickly lead to an addiction just like any chemical substance), third it has endless goals to achive, there is always something to strive for, and never enough time to do it all which increases the time sink, this furthers the addiction. People get sucked into itm loose all sense after a while, spend more and more time in the game, and some even confuse it with reality.

Now of course this doesnt happen to everyone, but most wow players spend far too much time playing the game at the exclusion of everything else, mainly because of the time sink.

You might also find that for the first few months you think this is a truely great game, but after a while your opinion may change, when you have been basicly doing the same things for months.

Well said. I'll keep that in mind.

Saw some funny things happen tonight, was in the Crossroads township (The Barrens) sitting down with my pet watching ppl have one on one fights, this guy comes up to me and asks me for a pet v pet challenge, well i couldn't see the point as my pet was lvl15 and his lvl22. But still i accepted his challenge, of course my pet died, might add he faught bravely right to his last breath. The guy then gives me an axe which was a few levels high before i can use it but had good hit points, then raves on how his pet is uber.
Then he asks this lvl 25 Tauren to challenge his pet, the Tauren accepts and the fight is on, actually it was quite a good fight, the Tauren was hitting him with spells then changing to animal form, then back to humaniod, pulls out his sword, then back to spells, he was putting on a good show, then just when he was about to win and kill the pet the pet owner Zaps him with some spell and down goes the Tauren :rotfl:Talk about dodgy tatics, and yeah the Tauren wasn't at all happy.

Along comes this skinny little elf female jumping around like a grasshopper who totally owns this Orc warrior. She was 2 lvls higher than him but that shouldn't really matter well so i thought, not only that but he challenges her 3 times and 3 times she beats him. :rotfl:

The poor guy left after that.

And thats the latest news on the noobs in wow

Plus warriors are a pain to level up. If you do make a alliance charactor make a paladin. :p

Last night i tried out a Dwarf warrior got to lvl 8 then gave up. What i dont like is when your trying to lure the enemy. With my Orc hunter i would get close then use my bow, while they running towards me command by pet to attack while i take them out with bow or axe if they get close. Warrior you have to get up close, this is suppose to happen tho, but unless you have a group to join and do it together then its a slog doing it alone with each mob.

Hunter anyday!
