This is new to me, still have the disk in still, going to remove it then and keep SH4 disk in a safe place.

The game only uses the data on the harddrive. The dvd was used only for copyright checking, and since that protection is gone, you can put the dvd aside.

The missing eyes are a bug, unrelated to the dvd.

And this was because Ubisoft was sick of people calling about the fade protection, according to one of the romanians in another thread, not because they listen to us. :rotfl:

Edit: The brand new Company of Heroes also has this nice feature. Its a godsend.

They were listening and got tired of listening so they created a no cd exe. Kind of like the bill collectors calling all the time....you get tired of listening to it so pay the bill.

I'm surprised anyone would ask. It was mentioned several times in the official threads, and much discussed there.

I can now switch explorer off BEFORE I play now, the disc check was far too unreliable to do it before, so I only have the disc in for the autorun screen now.

Company of Heroes, Microsoft Flight Sim X, and Supreme Commander all don't require the disc. I don't think it hurt their sales. I wish more companies would do this.

I'm also really happy with the no-DVD patch. Very much appreciated.

My two cents:

Cent#1: I have always thought that the main user of naval games is on average much older than in other popular games, and normally has also both a sense of honesty and enough money to buy legitimate copies of the games, so that the official No-DVD exe is IMHO a correct policy to please that kind of user.

Cent#2: In turn, IMO -and I have of course not conducted any marketing poll- the guys (Usually younger) who use pirate naval games are mainly those who would NEVER have bought them, but use the pirate version because of being "free" for them. I.e. they download the game and try it, but would never have bought it instead if there had not been an cotsless alternative. So on average I don't think that it hurts the game sales, as most pirates would not have bought a legitimate copy. However, they might get hooked to teh concept and be interested in buying further releases, so the idea is not completely mad IMO.

It means that the game is "finished" and terminated by ubi.

probably no more patches, improvements or other related games.

i hope that they can release a SDK some day and allow the future evolution of two of the more importants naval sims of the history.

This assumption of "game is finished" is really getting annoying.

The only reason the SH4 DVD was needed prior to 1.3 was so the copy protection system could verify you were running a legit copy SH4. Same reason for SHIII. So more than likely I'd say yes, no more patches..... end of SH4 game support. But stranger things have happened. They might continue if you're nice, seeing there are more problems.

Will this be the way of the future for Ubi? Let's hope so as SOW Battle of Britain is coming out soon. And I do know Oleg doesn't like CP in his creations.

its what i mean ... i guess no further patches will be released for this. so what was the point of including the no cd .

i believe that they consider this game a finished business as far as their obligations as publishers or releasers

i hope im prooved wrong on this one
