I use bow because the only reason I use a deck gun is when i'm chasing merchants.

If you think stern is good so you can shoot when running away there are two flaws in your plan

1. Be MORE aggressive! Come on you're running away, what type of man are you?

2. If you are going to run away, do it like the sissy you are and run silent and run deep. That's the sissy style like me Captain Reaves.

Someone mentioned putting the tailgate down on a truck increases your gas mileage. It doesn't, try it. It creates downward pressure from the air coming off of the roof and down onto the bed. With the gate up, a cyclone is formed in the bed of the truck, thus pushing wind up over the roof and "bubble" of cycloning air in the truck, reducing drag. Mythbusters even did it once.

Just sayin'.

I have gone back and forth, but have settled for the front. It's easier for me to walk my fire onto opposing ships while approaching them. Also, if an enemy freighter has a forward deckgun as they sometimes do, I can just surface in tight right behind them, and blast the bejesus out of them without giving them a shot. A lot harder to do in reverse.

I don't worry about not having one aft for destroyers, because if it has come to that I don't think my one gun against their multiple ones, plus superior speed and agility is going to help. I would be much better off running silent and deep.

if I could put in on the stern, I would prefer that location. The Gato class for some reason wont allow me to switch it from the bow w/ the proper manned locations.

Either way, I like both

Definetly bow, I like to attack with the target in front of me.

I prefer the deckgun at the stern, because the deckgun is not a attack weapon, normaly it's only used to finish badly damaged targets or as last defence to fire at incoming destroyers after emergency surfacing, at flank speed running away from the destroyer only showing minimum profile ofcourse

BOTH. Because I once saw a western movie where a vet gunfighter told
a young wanabe that 2 guns are ALWAYS better than 1....

You gotta think of it from the point of view of the fellers manning your gun too. If you have a crew exposed to the open elements and breaking waves as you go forward, they are gonna be the ones that take the brunt of any waves.
Conversely, if you have them aft, the conning tower will take most of the force of any head sea, and allow them to fire with more accuracy.
As a naval gunner, I vote aft, just on behald of saving my own rear-end

Wow, that's a pretty good point, Captain Stabbing. I may have to think that over and discuss it with my boys.
