Good point. It is a different experience for sure

neon, I'm aware of that harbor attack, as well as a couple others. It was RARE. It was not ordered, it was aggressiveness on the part of a skipper.

In many many hundreds of patrols, it happened a handful of times. The harbor missions are COMMON in SH4. It's silly.

Its not something I would normaly do, its of course pretty much suicidal.......I was just dissappointed after putting in the effort and sinking so many of the sub chasers and DD's protecting the port thats all.

I always run in the shipping lanes, and ive done many patrols.

I am not moaning, just dissappointed.

I run the Trigger Maru mod btw.

I will of course keep hunting

I don't understand why so many people can't find a battleship or a carrier....

This game has plenty of everything.... to the extent that I am now running then 'Reduced map contacts' MOD.

Find a juicy taskforce, shadow and harass it for a few days, sometimes it takes 1-2 days just to get into a position. Considering the amount of torps you may expend sinking something, one good size Taskforce will satisfy most commanders.

Reduced map contacts only reduces the contact reports outside a certain range, the ships are still all there.

You are right.

I had a story to tell.

and

Fluckey was not your average skipper and you certainly could not call upon him to do something routine.

In fact, if he was in SH IV and sent in a patrol report, sub command would probably resppond with this:

Be less aggressive

Default Port raids

I've been prowling around ports myself. I've managed to get a few ships. But on my last attempt as I came in an alert DD picked me up and came right at me. I put a stern fish into his bow, but then all his buddies became active.

As I sped back out to sea I had a nasty surprise. Out of no where my ship was hit. "We're taking damage, Sir!" came the reports. There was nothing near me on the surface or in the air. I concluded that I had strayed out of the channel and hit a mine.

Being the type of guy who doesn't bother to read manuals (or look at the nifty map closely) I had not even realized there were minefields near some ports.

BTW, the biggest ship I saw in port was a Haruna. No CVs.

How depressing, virtually nothing at all in the area apart from a few rusty old hulks and a couple of Med Cruisers, hardly worth all the effort of the sneak and peak with various destroyers and subchasers in the area

I have yet to see a proper battleship or flat top in Campaign mode

i downed this one at yokosuka while waiting for merchants(my designated target for that mission).A anchored CV.
By the way;while sailing there i was too late to reduce timecomp. to get a good angle to hit another CV who returned from the Coral Sea together with at last 3 BB's...
So,believe me,they are in the campaign!
Eh...one little detail, the pic. is taken about 10 minutes before (unnatural)end of the campaign...
