Hm, this shouldn't the case here as WinXP (at least) recognizes files ending with .cfg as simple textfiles by default and therefore opens them with notepad by default.
Or am I wrong there ? Don't use Windows that much :>

alright thank. That worked but i do use auto plot but when close to land it brings it down to 2x compression.

There is a 'near land' value for the TC too. I just know it from SH3Com but it's in the config file too.

EDIT: ... and is called LandProximity

Set your LandProximity value to 256 (as Canovaro said before).

You can achieve this by using SH3 Commander or editing the main.cfg file.

A minor caveat: Though it's great that we can pre-adjust the TC for proximity to land, one must take care when approaching home base. Once, with my TC at 1024X approaching Wilhelmshaven, the lag got so bad that I could not lower the TC -- the controls did not respond until I had drifted almost into the minefield!

From now on, I reduce TC to 256X before entering the bay, then drop to 64X. So "home base lag" is no longer a danger to my boat.
