Which is why Ubi should be banished from making PTO games in the future. It's precisely because of their stupidity (i.e., the Grumman fiasco) that we have a PTO game without core aircraft like the Dauntless and the Wildcat, and fake medals that are called "WWII medals" in the manual. Oh yes, the Dauntless and the Catalina, two aircraft slated for SH4, were neither designed by Grumman, nor were their design firms ever bought out by Grumman. Ubi is just running scared and using poor logic in matters like this.

The future of wargaming lies with smaller development houses like Storm Eagle Studios, Tripwire Interactive and Battlefront, not huge, faceless corporations like Ubi and EA that dump games on the market one day and abandon their development the next.

Maayyyyybe. IF it is guaranteed to fix all the listed problems, and IF sufficient members of the community are allowed to be involved in the testing, and IF further patching is guaranteed if needed; then I would be glad to pay extra. I'm still hoping for a proper fixing/upgrade for SH3, which I would also be glad to pay for.

@Mookie - You can call it semantics if you like I call it "deliberate speak" and it is exactly what the business world engages in every day except it is more focused on the "legal linguistics" elements of communication. With that said I have known Neal nearly ten years and if he feels my comments will hurt his business model, which I'm well aware depends somewhat on cozy relations with developers, then he is more than welcome to edit my posts.

Additionally some food for thought, I spent a couple hours today working with one of my clients from Canon who is a senior manager and tomorrow he as well as his division boss, Q&A manager, and promotional manager will visit one of their clients to offer a truly heartfelt apology for some bugs found in their software. The entire process will take nearly four hours and involve a few briefs and a demonstration of corrective measures that Canon will implement to try to prevent future bugs of that nature in its software. Moreover they will also inform the client that several employees have had pay reductions and a few have been terminated as repentance for the oversight.

Companies like Canon that take software development so seriously warrant my full support. Now I ask you, can you name me one game developer that has ever apologized to gamers in a similar fashion - maybe with a video from the project manager on its website or some other such stuff?? I think not. It is ONLY the gaming software companies that fully exploit its consumer base and when people try to fight back they get labeled bad names. I find it all very amusing to be sure.

@Hitman - The outcome was marginally successful for the community and I ended up developing something of a mutually respectful rapport with one of the company representatives. Needless to say he simply could not believe I would spend such money on the community and I told him I'm a man of my word and I always put my money where my mouth is and I stand up for what I believe is a just cause. If more people did things like that this would truly be a better place.

Additionally if you doubt me you can always ask Neal about my veracity as I'm sure he will vouch for it. It was one such instance that led to my basically becoming a lurker in this community. You see I had a disagreement about a policy interpretation and several of the people that stood against me where at that time more valuable to Neal and logically he support their faction; in all fairness it was tacitly. Sadly enough in the long run many of them screwed Neal and the community over. However I'm still here and they are gone. Moreover if Neal ever needs help with anything he knows how to contact me and he should know if it is within my ability I'll do it.

I voted no.

I'd love to see expansions, but why would I commit to buying them when the core game is broken? That doesn't exactly give me the warm and fuzzies about ongoing support.

LukeFF, remember the problem with IL2 and the trouble Oleg had over a/c and not getting permission? Same applies with an expansion for SH4. More than likely they'd have to pay to use a/c from those mfgs.

This is also why we don't have Yorktown class carriers in the game...from what I've read, Grumman laid a legal smackdown on Ubisoft over IL2 and won. Now anything Grumman is off limits, and the Yorktown was built at Newport News Shipbuilding & Drydock Co, which is *SURPRISE!* owned by Grumman.

I voted "No" because I'm not paying between $19.99 and $29.99 for working radar, stopwatch, and imperial measurement system, which should have worked correctly, right out of the box. I had a gut feeling the SH4 release was going to extremely bumpy and I still bought the game as soon as it hit the store shelves knowing full well the state of the game as a first patch had been released that afternoon. It was purchased in good faith that the developers/Ubi would give the game the usual 4-6 month patching cycle.

If I was going to pay anyone for fixes, new content etc.,it would be to the hard working modders! If I got it right, and I think I do,the SH III add on was nothing but mods that were churned out by dedicated modders.I'll be danged if I'll pay Ubi for something that should have been working in the first place.I know nothing about SDK,but if opening it up would give are modders a chance to fix things,it would be nice if Ubi did that so are sim could be fixed up.

I would have paid a more premium price for a finished product, that didnt require a patch. i have no qualms about paying $100 for a Finished quality specialized kind of game like a naval simulator, or in depth strategy game. 40 or 50 bucks at generic bargain store is nice, but cheap. look what you get.

No, i owuld not pay for a patch taht they should be giving to the community to complete their product that they charged so much money for in the first place. I would pay for an expansion pack tho, depending on what it was and how much it was

Yes, I would and gladly. Many game developers have released 'upgrades/updates' in this format in the past. I would much rather shell out a few more bucks and be satisfied than plod along with a frustrating game that shows great promise. The bottom line is...there is a bottom line. Game developers must show a profit. I love sims too much to see them die on the vine due to the lack of money. I'll happily pony up if that's what it takes.
