Default Harbor attacks in GWX 1.03

I get into SH3 for awhile then put it away for awhile. Right now I'm very into it.

Last time I was I'd just installed the first Grey Wolves and was using SH3Gen. Seeing all those nice targets in British harbors drew me in and I made some runs into Ewe.

Of course, I knew nothing about the mines or sub nets. LOL!

So using 1.03 now I really have no interest in going into any harbors as I play dead is dead and don't feel like dying right now.

But I'm just wondering if anyone does go into the harbors in England using GWX 1.03.

Is there any way to get through mines and subnets other than luck?

Staying on the surface? (This doesn't sound very tempting to me)
Using the Ops. scope?
Sailing at 10 or 11 m instead of full peri depth?
Anything?

If it's just not really doable at 100% realism, I'm fine with that. Just wondering.

Well, I would say trial and error perhaps. In reality both sides would get intelligence reports on the mines and nets (and of course change them around some). That's not possible, so just be careful. Go really slowly. If you hit a net at slow speed you should be ok. If you hit a mine at any speed, well... goodbye

Me too. There doesn't seem to be a lack of good targets in deep waters. Just figured if it's doable, I should do it sometime.

Stay out of the harbours for obvious reasons
I find it kinda telling that nobody else tried it after Prien :hmm:

I've made a few harbour raids in GWX 1.03 and as long as you abide by what's in my harbour infilktration tutorial you should be OK.

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...rbour+tutorial

No gurantees though if you aren't careful you can get very dead very quickly. It does take some planning and I usually visit the habour once or twice and do a recce before going in.

Tobruk was fun one night where I managed to sink everything in the harbour using torps and gun, including the patroling DD and corvette outside.
