Default Mutiple Installs

Hi Chris, Jim, Kpt and JSc. Now please don't get mad at me, but I want to upgrade my GWX, SH3Commander and SH3Gen and you know how I misunderstand. I basically understand everything mentioned above for "single" installs; but I have multiple installs.

I know I have to Roll-back each one before doing anything, correct?

I also know that I should remove any mods that are installed using JSGME.

I have the GWX folders(Dec 23 version)
I have the original Commander (one for each installed game)
I have original Gen (one for each installed game)

Now, if I understand correctly, I should not bother upgrading GWX with 1.02 because it is in GWX 1.03, correct? So all I do is put the GWX1.03 in the GWX folder(s) - Ubisoft/silent Hunter III/folder and install.

Then I update each Commander to version 2.7 or do I just delete the originals and install 2.7 and route them to each multple install.

Same with the Commander. Delete them and install the 2.7 version and route them to each multiple install of any SH3 install version.

Then I know I have to do something with the Commander that relates to each GWX install. I have the GWX102cfgsh3cmdr. What should I do here.

Rob have a look at this earlier post of mine regarding multiple installs

Quote:
The way to do multiple installation is simple

1. Install a clean version of SH3 in the C\Program Files\Ubisoft\SH3
2. Patch it to 1.4b
3. Copy the whole folder and paste it whenever you want the new installation to be. After that rename it to whatever you like. Let's say GWX.
4. Now put the multiSH3 into the GWX folder and run it. When asked put GWX as the default directory where your careers will be saved.
5. After all this install GWX in the GWX folder, make a shortcut to the desctop and you're ready to play.
6. Now you can install the SH3Cmd 2.7 including all the extra Cfg Files (if needed)
7. After the installation is complete you right-click onto the desktop icon. You click on properties and where it say target you type "C:\Program Files\SH3 Commander\SH3Cmdr.exe" /l:"C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\GWX. Now this is the example of my SH3Cmd that will check the files in the My Documents\GWX folder that is generated by the C\Program Files\Ubisoft\GWX installation. After that this particular installation of SH3Cmd is linked to that installation of SH (GWX in this case).

I would suggest you do a different installation of SH3Cmd for each different installation of SH you have. That way you don't get the SH3Cmd confused and you don't mess up things.

Also I would suggest to leave the clean patched version of SH3 in the C\Program Files\Ubisoft\SH3 untouched as that way you can always copy it and paste it to add new mods. If you want to make new installations always copy and paste this folder and DO NOT USE the Installer of SH3 again (at least not for as long as the game is already installed)

That's correct

All patches are commulative. What you need to apply a patch is a CLEAN version of GWX.

You need one version of SH3Cmd for EACH working version of the game you have. You can link them to your installation via the /l switch as indicated in my quoted post on multiple installs.

You need to add the GWX-ONLY Cfg SH3Cmd files into C\Program Files\SH3Cmd\Cfg folder and overwrite the original (generic) files.

I hope it is clearer now. If you still have problems give me a shout

Thanks a bunch Mel, you are a life saver. I thought I was correct in everything I assumed, but I wasn't sure about thst CMDR cfg. I ONLY do that to the CMDR that deal with any GWX extensions, correct?

I was looking around and I think I saw that CMDR must be version 2.7 before I can add the cfg file mentioned above.

Rob if you update GWX to 1.03 (it's really good and you will like it. Trust me ) you need the 1.03 Cfg files for SH3Cmd (they're the same as for the 1.02 version by the way). You can get them from here http://www.users.on.net/~jscones/GWX/download.html (GWX 1.02+ Cfg files for SH3 Commander)

I get the impression that I'm only supposed to changed CMDR to version 2.7 if I'm using GWX and NOT SH3 installs and then add the new 1.02 cfg patch

Now, relating to SH3Gen latest version, I can just copy the files into each of my SH3 Gen installs for each game I have, including the one for GWX, correct?

That is correct. SH3Cmd 2.7 is the optimum version of use with GWX.

You don't really need different SH3Gen installs. The program is totally stand-alone and doesn't interact with the installations. My suggestion would be to have a single SH3Gen installation and use it with any SH/GWX version you play. After all the only thing SH3Gen is doing is to access and read your save game. If you need more info on that let me know.
