Puritans and Pariahs Coexist here, simple fact. Some among us
like to play at 1 tc and if you dont should you be eligible to
pass judgement on how others play, some will play as purists
there whole career some will play as pariahs there whole career
some will find a balance between the two. but puritan or pariah
when they play it and see it. there is a good chance a large
number of all will educate themselves a little on the history
of the campaign and so by preserving the great names.

I am an avid fan and admirer of the Puritan and historically detailed work
of the GWX team in sh3 land over there and I over there I think enjoy
a little notoriety as a pariah due to one of my mods.

I am a student of history first and a gamer second. in my opinion
the work of the purists which Id assume you to be, judging from
your opener, the work of the purists is important in ways
a little beyond just ordinary gaming. These Gaming forums
unlike others have a history that we can refer back to
and examine and what the puritan work of GWX did wasnt
to just mod sh3 it was to create within the framework
of of UBI's Creation a type of ever refined and improved
Living history of a type that no book lecture or film
doc or drama can or ever could deliver the work of
the puritans is More worthwhile I believe in the grand
scheme of things than is currently realized by most gamers.

So that established pariahs learn skills that are usefull too
My work on what must to many seem to be an abomination
as a fun learning project has taught me skills that make
me usefull in other more historically pure projects.

It is most regrettable that you feel everyone should have
your own preferences, I dont wish to impose mine on
you and I hope that if your way of thinking stands here
at subsim as a rule some day in the future that the
1 TC guys are gentle with you.

lets not forget that what we do here is play games
not make history, we mimic it in a game, and well
naturally under that circumstance a few Historian
types are going to mix it up with a few gaming types
but I think tolerance and understanding as well
as manners are all conducive to an ammicable
climate here at subsim.

Bless you for coming out in public Captain Jack
the truth is I dont resent your style of play
or for that matter even your expressed opinion
I just mind intolerance.

In closing Subsim Is dedcated in the main to submarine
simulations not the preservation of any single type
of modder or the exclusion of anyother, Im fairly confident
that what subsim admins do besides promote subsims
is promote community, I dont feel your dig at subsim
was fair or well reasoned.

Just my opinion jack.

I thought Beery's quote was pretty damn funny, and I took it to be totally tongue-in-cheek, which is, I think, exactly how he meant it.

I have a lot of respect for both of you guys, and the work you have done here on subsim. Let's remember it's easy to miscommunicate on a forum with no facial expressions, body language, etc... Smilies notwithstanding .

"Vile scheme" indeed... :rotfl: And the autocannon thingy was actually someone else's mod, wasn't it?

Peace out,

Mylander

While I have a lot of sympathy with the original post, there is space for everyone here. We all play these games for our own reasons and our own enjoyment. I enjoy playing with a lot of historical accuracy, some gamers find that too boring, while I find auto-deck guns and nuke torpedoes to be too silly. This community allows us all to get the best out these games in the ways that we individually find most satisfying and long may it remain that way.

Fair enough. I guess that pirate character smiley is taken to be completely serious - or combative. I'll have to avoid using it in future.

Honestly!

I'll tell you what, I'll just save myself some time and place all the folks with no sense of humour (or at least those who don't appreciate mine) on ignore. That ought to fix things at least from my end. You guys will have to do the same for me so that you're not inconvenienced by my arrogance or my trolling.

This site's ignore feature is a great thing. It's a pity some people prefer to allow others to annoy them rather than use it. Makes me wonder whether some folks prefer to play the victim.

AArrrrggghhhh!!! Enough of this....

Can I have a NUKE that fire upwards like a missile to clear the 4 DDS that are on top of me (right now!)?

Manila dock complex... sea plane and all ships destroyed without auto-cannons/nukes... just torps, original shells, and friendly fire

My sub has now 2 holes for sharks to swim in/out, 2 compartments flooded, 6 dead sailors, 10% batts left and less than 6h of air left. What are the changes to get out of this sea bed at 210ft deep?

The changes are ... good... I'll not lose my sub after 3 days (yeah 3 days real time) batteling in Manila

if US Navy had me back in 1942 I would had ended the war faster! :rotfl:

this 3 days mission is

I'm a 100% reality man. I play the game in my cellar, which I access by a vertical ladder. I have trays of diesel and shale oil on the floor, so that I get the right smell. I run the game in real time. During a patrol I live on the food that I originally took down into the cellar with me. Oh, and I grow a beard. For recreation I have one DVD of a 1940s movie to watch over and over again. When I take damage my wife opens the cellar hatch and turns the garden hose on me.

I want to get an ice creme machine but I need to find out which classes of boat actually had them.

Whatever floats your boat, err sub I mean. It is all about choice in the end

Yeah I wish I had the time and patience to play at 100% or not use mods, but I don't and will play as I choose in the end

In the end my hats off to all who have made this game better by their modding, however it makes the game.

The blurb at the bottom of the opening page states the site is dedicated to submarine simulations. But to post mods like the ones above causes the site to lose its credibility in my opinion....

Ok..fire away..
Well Jack, the point is that no one is forcing you or anyone else to use these 'fantasy' mods. Do you believe people shouldn't have choices? I despise communism/fascism. And regarding realism.. exactly what is realisitic and what isn't. That in itself is a subjective argument. I am the one who recently made and released the Automatic Deck Guns v1.0 mod. I think it's an outrageous, far out, ridiculously fun as hell mod. But personally, I don't use it. But I made it to give players choices. Freedom of choice... do you understand the meaning and importance of these three words? Maybe not.

I think it's really very subjective, and in the end who is harmed by a fantasy mod?

Someone who plays the game at 100 percent reality, may also have a 10 year old son who likes to see more powerful torpedo explosions and brighter torpedo wakes. It's all relative.

Bloody hell... I need a couple of above missiles in my Gato sub...... for next time.

The DDs gave up after dropping all their rocks on top of my sub for 2 long hours. Now another real day or so to dock.

Can't we have a Sub-Carrier in the game... that grab the sub and teleport into the dock? :rotfl:

Why?

Because were not respectful enough to our SH3 brothers, and deserve to be 'spanked' by stupid mods once in a while! :rotfl:

Maybe. Clearly you take my humourous posts way too seriously. The fact that I thought the mod was yours wasn't an accusation, nor was it meant to annoy anyone

I didnt find it humorous. I found it exactly as presented. A deliberate, jab at myself. Ive been around here waay too long, and put up with waaaay to much BS to not recongize those subtle punch's when their swung in my direction.
