Default Are there any config files I can tweak further for more FPS?

Hey!

I have a rather slow Grafx card (9800XT) but I know it has enough power for the most part, but lacks post effects etc.

Does anyone know, if there are more settings than those video settings ingame, which can be modified in one of the many config/ini files?

Even when I set everything to low ingame, I still get some kind of depth blur and other visual effects which I d like to disable.

cheers

As far as I know there are no additional ini options. You could try the Omegadriver, it´s an optimized/faster version of the standard ATI driver:
http://www.omegadrivers.net/

It also includes the ATI Tray Tools, with it you can overclock the card. IIRC I could overclock my 9800 Pro by 15%.

Another thing...

Remove sea flor rocks and big plants,nice but useless for my opinion,too big plants.
Remove the placton of the water an other effects.
Smoke is another fps killer.
reduce clouds morphing speed

I´m not sure if it could help but you can try

perhaps tweaking down the water transparency ..but it´s not moded yet

Omega Drivers equivalent to ATI 7.1 works fine ... game runs smooth most of the time.

If you have FPS problems attemp one o more of the following.

Unistall the game, defrag the hard drive and install the game over a just deraged hard drive.

Close all non used background programs, antivirus, antihackers, specially Zone Alarm, all other non necesary tasks. Be sure you are not connected to internet ...

You can run End It All program to close some of them.

You can use Security Task Manager to check what task are runing into the background.

If not enough, go to the windows video drivers control panel, adjust best performance options...

If not enough.... attempto disabling some ingame graphic options...

This game runs much better than SH3....

I am currently working on an environment tweak file that will be able to tweak reflections (big framerate killer), waves, underwater clarity, and a bunch of other stuff. Some of the settings should be able to be changed with this tweak file to get much better framerates. But I feel the biggest framerate killer for me is the interior 3d complexity. Once a decent .obj extractor is released, I will try to fix this, too.

Did you tried turning off the debugging options in your main.cfg file?
Gave me some performance boost, my computer is not very up to date, too...

Go to your documents and settings folder, look for SHIV directory, open main.cfg with notepad
and change those lines to something like that (all 3 options where on "Yes" before)

[DEVELOPING]
DevDebugEnable=No
DevEditEnable=No
MiniDump=No
I can also recomment using that EnditAll programm, esp. when your on 1024 MB RAM...

I forget the most important....

Are you using an "onboard sound card" ????

Onboard sound cards are "FPS Eaters".

I was having lot of troubles with SH3, very low FPS in the "bottle necks".

I was not sure, then i buyed an X-FI, i didnt buyed the most expensive because i wasnt sure if it will solve the problem...

Bad decision... game runs wondeful after replace my onboard sound card by an X-FI.

I was having about 7 FPS in the bottle necks, after X-Fi install they never runs under 35/40 FPS in the bottle necks.

I am so sorry i didnt buyed the most expensive, wich has own incorporated, built in memory.

There was a version of X-FI with 64mb built in memory incorporated.

I buyed the no memory one...

Another trick.... do not use 4.1 or similar settings into your sound card control panel, SH3 and SH4 runs better in 2.1, if you use 4.1, you will lose many sounds, and FPS.

Try disabling any strange sound effects, just run it on 2.1 with 3D positional audio enabled only.
