So this game is really hot? Funny, but it is at our two Wal-Marts and the games are just sitting there. I almost bought one - then I didn't. Why? Because so far none of the screen shots or movies I have seen look as good as the old SH3. The interior shots look more cartoony. I read about all the flaws - men calling out numbers over and over and torpedoes hitting or missing aft. Something about the game just doesn't seem right - and no one complains about magnetic torpedoes failing - which they did at a rate of 70% at during the first year and a half of the war. The number of reported flaws seems to exceed anything that first appeared in SH3. And yet what I see on screen looks like just another mission with SH3 with different flags, but worse art. Even the depth charges are too powerful - and yet Japan used tiny DCs until late.
I just can't bring myself to do it. I feel like this time I have to wait until Ubi coughs up the fixes (I still hate the fact that SH3 was never really fixed and was left with only Patch 1.4) or until mods finally catch up. What I see is that mods are going to take a long while to fix this thing - just as it took on SH3. I don't even want to mod on this thing. Then it hit me why the games are just sitting on the shelves: for most people this is just SH3 reloaded. Nothing truly creative has been added. Many of the same lacks in SH3 just reappear in SH4. Still no worry about Japanese subs attacking US subs, cause still no AI for it. Do I want to continue this Ubi thing? Maybe not. One thing is for sure - at the rate the game is sticking to the store shelves, I can always take my time and buy into it latter. And then there is the fact that I can no longer use Windows 2000 if I load this game. Some of us detest XP and especially Beasta. What did they do to the art - why is it so two D and lifeless? Good bye Ubi |

Not sure, but graphics-wise you may be reacting to the Post-Processing, which gives that game that (silly) 1940s movie film look. Evidently some (maybe most) people like it, but those of us who prefer more life-like visuals can turn it off, and the game does look very good.

Post processing or not, I don't see why some people still think SH3 looked better. Looking at SH3 screenshots now, it looks so much more primitive.

I agree with Boris: I still love SH3 but all the screenies and videos of SH4 I've seen look great!

@WaveS
Sorry to here that man. I love the game myself. I have sunk 4 merchants on my second partrol using the stadimeter and torpedoes. I have no issue with it quite honestly. My PK works fine with slow torpedoes. I alway use slow on my torps. That is just me. Furthermore, my speed of target was dead on, AOB dead on, distance to target dead on. Four torps sent and for torps score. This was in manual unassisted targeting. It was a beautiful thing!! I truely have a great time. I do not experience men calling out numbers all the time. I have but one issue and it is the "a" key CTD. Graphics with post processing filtering ![]() Campaign diversity is ![]() Immersiveness ![]() Overall game play dispite a bug or two ![]() I score it an 8 after 20 some odd hours of playing. Your loss sir and as far as hot....it is the hottest thing on my hard drive at the moment ![]()
