While my interests in U-boats was within me prior to his book being made into a movie,, Thanks to him,, many more joined in serious stuty of this aspect of that terrible time we call war, and he let those who never experienced it, understand the true nature and wear it has on the individual person.

A great pity he died. I hope he got to appreciate how games like this keep his memories alive through interest in his book and the film based on it.

Old age has taken what Allied depth charges could not, and I can't think of a more desirable end for a U-boat sailor than that.

He did a great thing for us history buffs, and thus he leaves us an indelible legacy. Rest in peace, Herr Buchheim!
