A bit of advice from an old Air Force puke and flight sim buff (Combat Flight Sim 1, 2, 3) who also did a lot of modding of aircraft, airfields, cockpits. You will find this a very different world. You have to slow way, way down and develop more patience than any combat pilot was ever born with (I know as an ex) with different tactics. But that's one of the allures...sort of cross training.
What will be (maybe) frustrating is the fact that the modding is far more complicated and distant than Microsoft provided in their releases. So unless you are a dedicated graphics designer or coder, probably you will not be able to get into the complex world of modding the action or graphics very much. There are a large number of mods available done by dedicated and talented people, but be sure to read their install carefully. I would suggest cutting your teeth on the standard SH3 install, then trying the more difficult, but more realistic and beautifully modelled NYGM and Grey Wolves extensive rewrites/models. Welcome aboard...and remember, here you cheer for the Germans to win. |

DVD. That way you'll have the cool box, and the map. Also you'll have a cool shiny disc you can point to and say "See? I play Silent Hunter III", and your friends will all go "Ooh!" and "Ah!"
