Agreed. No way we need another blue state but I'm not implying Canadians are crazy.

Y'know that's a concept most separationists fail to understand. Canadian provinces would make a pretty sizable voting block in Federal politics. Not only in the electoral college but also in the US Congress and especially in the Senate, where you get two seats for every state (ie: province) regardless of population.

Far from being the serfs the Canucks imagine they would be, in truth with their population, territory and natural resources, they'd be the new big dog on the US political block and have a heckuva lot more say in the actions of this country than they do now.

I thought the UK was bought out by the European Union? Seriously the last thing anyone here in the new world wants is to be under European control ever again. You guys will just have to break off and join us. Sort of like the Hawaii of the East.

Is culture really distinguished by national boundaries anymore in this day and age of multiculturalism, and global travel/communications?

Presently I don't see any pressing need for a union of Canada and the US but in 50 years time? Will our decendants wish we had done it back when we had the chance to do so in peace?

No Way!
1.Too many socalists up there. We don't need any more.
2. They can keep Quebec. We have enough problems with Spanish.
3. They can keep their hooligan hockey players up there.
4. They had their chance during the American Revolution.
5. 2 words Metric System (I can handle meters, and that's it)

Silly, silly.

I think it's a common misperception that English Canadians and Americans are the same darn thing. What's that all aboot, eh?

No Way!
1. Not enough socalists down there. I would feel lonely.
2. They can take Quebec. We have enough problems with... oh wait.
3. They can stop stealing all the glory from our national sport down there.
4. They had their chance to repent during the American Revolution.
5. 2 words Imperial System (I can handle feet, and that's it)

[edit]

And on a more serious note -

If Canada joined the US, I would leave. Don't get me wrong, I love Americans and all, but I have too many misgivings about certain social and political aspects of US public life (nikimcbee's point #1 explains why - yes, I'm a socialist and want to be at least in a non-disdained minority). In Canada I'm at least mostly comfortable.

Canada is its own society, or perhaps its own multiple societies (I'm sure people in the West would agree that they have their own stances on things that are different from those of us in Ontario). I'd rather it stay that way - I genuinely do like Canada the way it is and I've every intention of being a good Canadian citizen as long as it does.

(point of curiosity - although I was born and mostly raised in Russia, Canada is the only country whose citizenship/passport I ever held)

counting to ten is to tough for you, is it.

your right and we shouldve just kept the michigan territory instead of letting you have it back after you complied with the agreements. then the great lakes might still have some indiginous species left

and I am not spanish but I take exception to RACISM being expressed on this thread. isnt Your Racism against forum rules ?????????????????

you know chiding is one thing but the racism expressed in #2 is not acceptable under forum rules

one of the problems quebecers have is they feel they are losing their culture
to english canada and they are not.
they are losing their culture to Multi Culturalism and dont realize it
it seems you have something in common with the quebecers then
i guess

You can either embrace the future or get run over by it.

He was talking about the Spanish language, not about people from Spain.
