Neither can I; especially since UBIsoft is based in France.

I've had some feedback from GamesWarehouse and it's now all but confirmed the Australian CE is the same as the European CE which means only the US/Canada are getting the WWII sub documentary (replaced by a "Soundtrack CD"). How stupid is that? Some marketing idiot undoubtedly decided that enthusiasts of strategic simulations outside the US/Canada who would buy a Collector's Edition wouldn't be interested in a documentary on US WWII submarines!

If, and I stress if because no details have yet been released, the European Super CE includes the documantary then we'll still miss out because Ubisoft won't sell to us.

I am seriously annoyed now. I wanted the doco.

That's really annoying! Who in his right mind believes that one wants to get a soundtrack cd rather than a documentary? If that's true Ubisoft has screwed up!

This may be to do with Ubisoft not being able to clear the documentary footage for use outside of North America. If you think about it, it would be so much easier for them to make the 'limited edition' the same for everyone, why would Ubisoft give themselves a headache over this?

My guess is that the footage is cleared for North American sales only.

They're just chasing the allmighty buck! You would too if you had their overheads. Don't worry SH4 will invade Europe soon enough!

It's invading europe at pretty much the same time...

But I'm not worried about the doco... a soundtrack CD is pretty cool too. Someone can always rip the doco and make it available for download.

well, a sound track CD is a lazy option as its just going to be the same .wav or mp3's that are in the game any way. copy them to a cd and bang instant "Collectors Edish"

I don't believe that. Periscope Films would only benefit from the royalties from non-American sales and their increased exposure thereof. As it is they'll lose now because it will be pirated outside the US/Canada. It's not like it's hard to distribute a documentary internationally.

I'm prepared to believe it's an Ubisoft stuff-up. It's not like it would be the first time. There's actually no reason to have both European and US editions of SH4 in the first place. It was necessary to have different skins for SH3 because of the German laws against displaying the swastika in games but that doesn't apply to the Rising Sun. And since most TV/DVD etc systems outside the US are multi-system (PAL + NTSC + SECAM) there's no technical obstacle just because the documentary will undoubtedly be in NTSC format.

I've just read this thread and can say that after having a bad morning at work I am now near suicidal thanks to this bad news.

We'll, atleast we'll have the "Special Edition" of SH4 in Europe, the normal package + the limited "first sales" add-ons.

As someone else pointed out, UBI is a French company. And they neglect their own people. Shame on them. Really. I had though different of the French.

We can all go on speculating. In the end, it is what it is. For whatever reason, the US/Canadian version has the documentary and the European/Austrailian version doesn't.

I don't know the reason for the decision, but I can't see anything changing in the weeks leading up to the game's release.

There has to be a reason for the different versions, because no company wants to give itself more merchandising work to do in releasing a game. Only Ubisoft know the real reason for the decision.

As long as I get the game plus the user manual, a quick reference card and a
nice Recognition Manual I'm happy.

Default SHIV Contents

Aside from the game itself of course, the contents that interest me the most are the recognition manual and the Pacific map. And I would be willing to buy the ealry edition to get these - I doubt they will come with the later one (maybe a smaller version of the map).
