The year is 1942, my boat is a 7C
A few hours ago my watch crew spotted an enemy destroyer far off in the distance. I checked it out and decided to dive for safetys sake. I dove to approximately 45 meters and sailed at roughly 4 knots. Maybe 10 minutes later this destroyer is on top of me and starts dropping depth charges! I have turned my boat in all kinds of directions and have attempted to out smart him for roughly 2 1/2 hours now. I have stayed at silent speed with a mix of flank during depth charges. I am now sitting at 255 meters and she is holding strong. ![]() This has been some of the most fun I have had in SHIII, but also very frustrating. He has not used ASDIC since he first began his attack run. I can't lose him. What can I do? Why did he stop using ASDIC? I haven't heard any pings for quite some time. This was one destroyer, my god what will happen when I attack a convoy fully escorted? This is my first time playing GWX late in the war. (I usually only last until about 41) Also, this is for a patrol with my wolves at war character. This really makes things SO much more intese. I have spent hours writing a story for my character and his crew and doing training patrols etc... I can't lose him damnit! (Edit: Just as I am writing this, I notice the destroyer is now at medium range! I may have finally lost him....) (Edit again: Nope... this damn guy is coming back now.)

Holy smokes that's what you call intense, I can't believe it is still chasing you, good luck.

I assume you have rigged for Silent Running. And you will probably need to lower your speed to 1-2 kts. If you can get a little distance on him, then try to raise the boat to periscope depth where it is harder for him to detect you at that angle. Remember when you are at his stern, he probably can't detect you at all. If you are 90° to him, you still have a pretty good chance he won't here you. Remember the Bold decoys are your best friend if you have them.

I finally lost him. I ran ahead slow most of the time. I think that's where my error was. I started running at 1kt and that's when he started to lose me. Either that, or he just ran out of eels. That was pretty intense. Sitting here for that long in real time started to make me feel like Johann!
I am amazed that he found me in the first place. He was a distant contact when I first dove under. I had just sunk a large cargo ship in the area, so maybe he was responding to that. But why would he stop using his ASDIC? :hmm:

Or maybe you were being loud enough that all he needed was passive.
That's freakin intense though. |

![]() If you went 45m at 4 knts, I am not surprised they found you. I think this is not the good depth zone, because anyway you have to make noise to have enough speed to dive that deep. Of course this is also all influenced by weather.
