You can also consider War Ace Campaign. Which is an excellent supermod . Why it is not as well known and played as the others (GW and NYGM) baffles me to this day. It has an intuitive UI worked into it, graphical additions galore, new ships, harbor traffic, sub skins, etc, etc, etc.

Personally, I have two different installs of SH3 running: one with WAC and the other GW1.1a.

In a nutshell GW is more graphically demanding and NYGM is aiming to be closer to reality. To tell you the truth both have almost the same level of difficulty for me (NYGM is probably slightly more difficult but there are no real differences in that department)

GWX is a totally different story though. It is the next level of the SH3 evolution and in my opinion it would be unfair to compare it with either GW and NYGM. It is comming out in a few days and it's a MUST
Could be interesting a less hardware demanding version of GW and be able to mantain all gameplay features like sensors, campaign files and other upgrades. :hmm:

So far in my experience with the Beta Version of GWX I haven't seen any issue to indicate that it is more hardware demanding than SH/GW/NYGM. There might be a slight lag of a second or two in the loading screens but that's all really. I have 512MB RAM and GWX runs fine.

Thanks guys you all rock! I only played sh3 for the first time last night and just completed the first patrol, all the way to scappa flow for me I sank two ships, two merchant men. I am still learninig the game and found that having to move crew around and keep the boat going was hard. As was the reloading of the tubes when they all wanted to sleep, making me miss the naval ship. I wont to load these mods and am looking towards the GW one, should I wait and how long before it is availible? what other mods do you recommend, I got the radio one. And where do I down load them from?

I tried to download and use the pato mod but failed I guess I need help with modding (not my strongest point)

Thanks again guys, I am really enjoying the game!!!

A couple of good things is the "Super" mods like GWX/NYGM come with alot if not all the smaller mods ( or made by themselves ) So IMHO DL both the Big mods because you can always add to them with the newer smaller mods
Plus don't forget JScones's SH3 commander 2.7

"EDIT" and also if at some point you want to go online, i would STRONGLY suggest making another couple of installs for GWX/NYGM patched to 1.4b ONLY. No SH3 Commander..due to the fact it changes the basic.CFG file

So in short For the best of both worlds Campaign = Multi install of a Clean SH3+1.4b patch + GWX/ NYGM+ Sh3 Commander
For online = Multi install of a Clean SH3+1.4b patch + GWX / NYGM

Hope that helps

Well, if you want to get into GW, maybe it is best to wait a few days for GWX.

For modding... well, best to ask about specific things on the mod forum! There's lots of things you can call 'modding' in SHIII :hmm:

That said, if you go with GW or GWX, all you need is a clean SHIII v1.4a install and said mod (same with NYGM 2.2). They are VERY inclusive so unless you have a specific gripe with the mod, it's best not to risk installing things on top of it. Remember that installing a mod on top of a mod that doesn't go together can break the game.

I feel like Sherlock Holmes now whit this question :

How long did it take to get one mirror or put the up the files there?

It will give an estimated time when we can se 3 mirriors and the final release.

Edit/ Darn Jscones, You typed as same time as me. 2 mirrors YAY, even closer to release. I can even hope for a release this friday.

Try using SH3Cmd http://www.users.on.net/~jscones/software/products.html
That way you can chose the fatigue model you like. If I understand correctly the no fatigue one suits you better. Also with SH3Cmd you can alter the configuration of your crew, give them medals and promotions.

Also another program you can use is SH3Gen http://www.global-explorer.de/
Using it you get intelligence on the position of enemy shipping.

Both these programs are stand alnoe and are compatible with every version or mod of SH3. Just make sure you reed the manuals and the FAQ as they explain everything you need to know.

Try them they are a MUST

Good Luck and Good Shooting

Not really. Start playing the game with the mod of your choice. Use SH3Gen and SH3Cmd and keep looking in SubSim for sub skins and stuff like that. See what it is out there and use whatever you like to make the game more fun for yourself. A word of advice though. There are some known problems with NYGM and SH3Cmd, so you better ask the NYGM Devs about them. I don't know what the issues are as I haven't used NYGM with SH3Cmd. Do a search in the forum as well you might come accross a solution.

Good Luck and enjoy the game

The only thing with NYGM and SH3 Commander is that you need to read the NYGM doc, where it tells you to copy a few files i(ncluded in the download) in SH3Cdr.
If I remember (I don't use SH3Cdr anymore) in the last 2.7 version there are also a few random files to delete. Well it's all clearly explained anyway.
I also would recommend you install the optional mods coming with it : Harbour Traffic, Enhanced Plotting Tools, Bearing Overlay and 6 Dials.
You can use JSGME to install/desinstall the whole thing, including NYGM itself.
By the way there was recently a 2.3 update that I recommend you to load, install over 2.2.

Thanks again guys I am really getting into this game. I still think NYGM with its one download file makes it more accessible.

Where can I get the mods you suggested Corsair?

Well the tonnages are still high even with NYGM, but mine are actually a bit lower.
What numbers in terms of tonnages per patrol are you talking about?
