@AL, so he's 14? He has every right to an opnion and I know a lot of kids who are pretty sharp. @ N00b, look I also was against the Iraq war and don't like the way Saddam is going to look like a martyr. We can't however excuse massacres and genocides just because it was done "inside the country." Didn't that Spanish judge try to get Pinochet arrested? Was that interference or not? |

I did not say i want to do that. I'm not that stupid, dude. It was a "what would you feel IF" question. I'm way to Cowardly to do things like that. I already regret that comment. I should have formulated it better, but the point has been made clear. No offence or threats against anyone. Just to save the people from various Intelligence agencys from useless work. That article is confusing and long-winded. It's Sunday and I'm tired of reading all these newspapers full of these kind of articles from journalists who believe their article is more important than the facts being reported themselves.
Straight to the point without bells and whistles: Saddam Hussein - sentenced to death by hanging. Barzan Ibrahim - former intelligence officer, sentenced to death by hanging. Awad Hamed al-Bandar - former head of some government-party branch, sentenced to death by hanging. Taha Yassin Ramadan - former vice-president of Iraq, life sentence. Abdullah Kazim Ruwayyid - Baath party cave man, 15 years. Mizhar Abdullah Ruwayyid - Baath party cave man #2, 15 years. Ali Dayih Ali - Baath party monkey-man, 15 years. Mohammed Azawi Ali - Baath party "tell me who you walk with" man, not-guilty. I'm against the death penalty by principle, though I can accept exceptions (not including the automatic cases of self-defense and war). In this case I find Saddam to have earned the easy way out ticket. 15 years of torture at least before the final hanging, only to be applied after Saddam develops immunity to pain. And of course, there is the whole martyr thing. The Iraqi "insurgents" are being depleted and more Iranians have to cross the border to take their job every day. Iranians won't cry for Saddam but his killing could give one last breath to the Iraqi insurgency. Another argument to keep him locked for a little longer, just untill his death is sure to inspire nobody. He does not deserve a heroic ending to their understanding but to go down in shame and despise by the future generations.

Can anyone explain to me what good killing him will do? I understand it will save the cost of incarcerating him, but little other than that.
This isn't a flamer post, I'm genuinley interested. (An answer in plain language would be cool, rather than links to other stories/news articles - I never seem to have time to read those). Cheers.

Because letting him live would give incentive for others to continue fighting once they're let out of prison. It's the whole "They didn't kill Saddam, so they're not going to touch me once I get out" mentality. Not only that, but it would be perceived as a show of weakness by the Iraqi gov't (not the United States), and invite more warfare and bloodshed.

I think they wanted to hang him, as he request that if he was sentanced to death, he wanted to be shot.
Maybe they should have handed him over to Kuwait. I sure they would love to have a chance to pass some judgement on him!! Maybe Iran would give up there Nuclear program for him as well. They would love to show what the quaran says about what he did to the country. |
