No Oscar for Das Boot
I'm sure I remember a suggestion that Das Boot missed out on an Oscar as subs sinking ships was "politically sensitive" at the time.
In spring 1982 one of Her Majesty's subs sank the Argentinian ship Belgrano during the Falklands conflict resulting in the loss of quite a lot of the crew. Submarine warfare was not seen as something to be rewarded! |
