Good ole XP which is older and wiser and is proven each day. There are still a lot of New XP computers being sold. Ole Bill sure knows how to scoop up the money doesn't he.

What I would do is uninstall SHIV, clean your registry, delete the SH4 folder in your documents. Update your video drivers and consider Omega drivers. then
Reinstall in c:\games
If you are running SH3, you have the correct codices on your computer; nevertheless, when the install program asks to install them, do so.
You should be able to play this game with your machine without any problems

No you have not! Just out of ideas for you. Except me OK, I run SH4 on the Vista 64 OS. First, where did you load the game on the hard drive? X86 program files? If so, uninstall it from there and keep your games out of these program files (some games will not let you, such as COD WaW). Go to My Documents and remove the SH4 folder there. Clean up the registry if you have a cleaner. If not, should not matter. I'm just anal about that Now, create a root folder for all your games you want to install. I named mine GAMES2 (there is already a GAMES folder MS created so I named mine GAMES2). Insert your SH4 disc to install. When prompted to where to load the game click Browse and find your newly created GAMES2 fold. Select, click OK and let it install to this new folder. The reason you do this because loading the game into X86 creates issues when loading mods there to activate with JSGME. It make for a bunch of errors. Once installation is complete you are just about ready. Now, go to your video card program and reset you video card to all default straight out of the box values. Should be a one button operation to do this. Make notes on your preferred settings so you can change them back later. Fire up SH4. It should load right up. Close out the game and go back to your vid card program and set it up the way you like. Go play the game. It should not crash. After following the steps I outlined and it still crashes, then we look elsewhere for the cause of the crashing. First, do what worked for me and then we go from there.
