Only because Privateer made the flag model. Which, by the way, is alot better then existing conning tower flag mods from SH3/5 in my opinion. Porting it over isn't hard. It's all about node placement. I described how to implement the mod in a thread "I need a much smaller flag" in the fleetboat mod forum. (im too lazy to search and link it)

Send a PM.
I for one don't read every forum or every post.
But I do try to answer every PM I get.
(When I check them)
Privateer is correct. Lurker will be upset if his work is used without his permission. And i think he does check in from time to time. He simply doesn't post - at all.

I would strongly advise a politely worded PM informing him of your intentions and asking permission to use/continue his work. If he doesn't reply, assume the answer is "No". If he does reply, do not expect more then a yes or no response.

What do you mean iambecomelife? Texturing work?

I don't remember seeing anything like that but then again I never got past 1940 :-) Always restarting for one reason or another.

You're saying that sometimes you get orders to ship out to Atlantic Ocean but when the game loads your patrol area is in the Indian Ocean? Or that the grid coordinates don't match?

No no, I mean when I go to the HQ screen where I can select game options select my crew torpedo load out whatever. The giant map that you click on in order to get your mission and the piece of paper on the left that types out your mission. The map that normally shows where your patrol grid is at shows the Indian Ocean not the Atlantic. Once I start the mission I'm obvioulsy in the Atlantic Ocean. Just something small that truly does annoy the snot out of me. Breaks the immersion and all.

For a solution apply the LAA-patch to your SH4.exe (see post #14 and #15): http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=177503
I tried it and it says it can't patch the exe because I have an "unknown version" of the game.

I am using SH4 with the U-Boat Missions upgrade (legit, no cr@ck), bought online.

Is it a Steam version?
I found out that Steam puts crap code in the files also.
You can just use the original patching Utility from here:

Use the original LAA-patcher instead: http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=112556

Run it, point it to your sh4.exe, click ok. A backup is created before patching btw.

Yes work has already begun on that front. Thanks to Privateer's model and your instructions even a total S3D novice like myself was able to eventually figure it out :-)

No worries, it's not my (or I hope anyone else's) intention to take over OM or anything like that. I don't have the time or the knowledge needed to do so, even if I wanted to. I'm merely interested in building a few small OM compatible mods around it, mainly for my own sake.

But I do appreciate what you're saying and I will thread lightly regardless.

Ah I see then it's a very easy fix :-) A previous mod I worked on with Akula4745 already took care of that and also revamps the office to have a more ATO feel. See ---> http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=156502

Ah cool I suppose I install this last over OM and OMEU?

And in regards to Lurker, he abandoned his work if I recall correctly. Abandon your work and you forfeit it to whom wishes to continue it. I can understand asking for permission but I wouldn't take a non response as a no. That sounds a bit childish to me. If he doesn't respond, then it means he didn't read it. Again It would seem rather stiff of Lurker not to allow someone to continue his work, his work he no longer wants apart of. I mean I don't think Captian Morgan asked permission to modify the RSRD files in order to make them compatible with the new TMO.

The way I see it as long as whoever continues his work as long as they give him credit for it, there should be no problem.

Glad to hear that people are still trying to keep this alive. I am tempted to get into a "which Silent Hunter is the best one" discussion, but all of the different SH games have their own merits. It would be great to have the best of them all in one game....gameplay, graphics, immersion.

I love the way SH4 loads and starts so quickly and runs very stable.

I think that it still has too much of a Pacific feel (just look at the buildings for example). It could do with being a touch more European in the harbours and along the coast. A bit more harbour life would be good.

The map department misses a few more charts like there are in both SH3 and SH5.

I don't seem to have many lifeboats in the water with OM when a ship goes down.

With SH3, you could almost sense the way the war was going by the atmosphere created by the radio messages. I miss that.

After SH5 I feel that the SH4 u-boat is a bit limited. SH3 has open hatches and fire damage. SH5 has flooding. It would be great if these things could be modded in SH4.

When I look at the mods I use with all the SH games, SH4 is the shortest mod list. That shows what a good job Lurker did. It also shows that there is room for more.

Like I said, it's a great initiative you are taking. I appreciate you taking the time to improve the game.

While I'm at it we should find a way to move the flags. Why are they attached to the stern of the ship. There isn't any way you can see them until the last possible second and that is incredible annoying.

Yes me too...I'm working on adding radio traffic slowly but surely. I only have the first three months of the war done though. See sample below. Basically I'm reading the BdU daily logs and only picking stuff that makes at least a little sense gamewise. If anyone wants to jump in and take a few months/years off my hands it'd be great.

I'm just trying to add a few things around the edges you know, I don't have the knowledge required to do much more than that. I'm hoping that other modders will be inspired by all the ideas in this thread to work on their own projects too.

As Karl Marx would say "From each according to his abilities, to each according to his needs"

Thanks Privateer, check your PMs about the ropes.

I have two Turms done so far...out of about 26 that I can count. (I don't think all those are actually used but not sure exactly how many I have to do yet).
