We've got that system here and no abstention option on the ballot paper. If you want to abstain you just turn up to the polling station get marked off and put a blank paper in the box.

Strangely only very few do that and even fewer govt bother to turn out. At last the votes that do count are representative of the population. I agree that not taking part is a poor option and shows a lack of interest and care about how you are governed. We always get the government we deserve regardless of how many vote though.

The problem is that if you do vote you are still more likely not to have your chosen representative in government.

I did vote, as I believe that you should if you can, not that any of the candidates were worthy of any vote, any powers, or taxpayers' money.

More than 200 grassroots members have signed up to the online LibDems4Change campaign which has published an open letter to Mr Clegg.
It says: "We consider it vital that at the 2015 General Election the Party should be led by someone who will receive a fair hearing about our achievements and ambitions for the future.
"It is clear to us that this person is not you, as the loss of so many of our hard-working councillors highlights.
"You have fulfilled a range of objectives in Government, but we now believe that progress will be best achieved under a new leader.
"We therefore ask that you stand down, allowing the membership to select your successor this summer."

Go back to your roots would be a start.

Opinion polls before voting started on Thursday is that they would be only 2 to 3 Lib dum MEPs left with one Yougov poll predicting only one will remain.
