I for one Like both but I have not had any other Version of SH except 4. My last sub sim was Aces of the Deep which was a U-boat game. As far as game play and graphics SH4 is alot better. AOD was ok but SH4 is great. I am glad that I ran across it at walmart. I looked at it and at an impulse bought it. I have no regrets and enjoy every moment I play SH4

I for one hope this add on is successful as we may get more. Once they put in the German stuff maybe we'll get some Royal Navy boats like the T class. Range of 11,000 nm like the Balao, a total of 10 forward firing torpedo tubes ( 6 internal like US subs plus 4 single shot external) only 1 aft tho but never mind and according to Wikipedia they served in all theaters of WW2 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_T_class_submarine so I think they would make a sensible addition the the pacific campaign as the RN operated subs out of Freemantle, Australia.

Definately a big thumbs up for RN subs Would be great to skipper a T class or U class and fly the Jolly Roger on my return to port!

Listen, guys. SH4 is actually alot more stable gamewise than SH3 was stock. All the bugs I've read about (I havent experienced any) have been realism or graphics related, and apart from the odd case of FPS munching, havent really prevented someone having fun with the game for an hour or two.

What you have to remember is, we were in exactly the same situation with 3. That needed what, 4 and a half patches and a buttload of mods to make it ultra-realistic. The same is slowly happening with this one.

If you think about it, submarine simulations of this detail are still a pretty niche market, and with a publisher that fronts such series as Splinter Cell and Ghost Recon, the quality of game we get is actually very good. SH4 wasnt perfect out of the box, but it wasnt unplayable either (unless you had a low-end system).

I think this addon is a great idea, because it will allow the devs extra time to iron out those niggly little things we havent fixed ourselves. Now I know someone's gonna hit that quote button and say something like "Its not our job to fix the bugs". Well, no, not technically, but frankly, its impossible to release a perfect game that everyone's going to like with the development time most houses get these days. People are going to want different things from their game, be it a graphical, explosion filled blockbuster, a lazy afternoon trundling in the Pacific, or a manual TDC brain melter, so mods are always a key element in video gaming.

Anyway, my point is, I cant believe people are still complaining that the game doesnt do this, or doesnt do that, when the resources to make it just as good and better than 3 exist. The fact remains that this is all just deja-vu, and I take my cap off to anyone who realises that this is a sim that deserves to be played and enjoyed.

I agree. At the beginning, just after the release, I was complaining about the game, its bugs and lack of some elements. But now, after 1.4 patch released and the add on on the horizon, with all the mods, esp such as Run sIlent run deep, Trigger maru and ROW, this game seems to me to be absolutely great and still with a great potential. Now I feel that it is only the beginning and it wil be even better.
I liked SH3 from the beginning, tried various mods like Real U-Boat to percieve this game as finished and complete after the installment of GWX 1.03. And what? GWX2 came out, and is still geting better. I am sure this is gonna be the same with the Pacific SH, maybe not GWX equivalent for this theatre, but lots of other mods will come. I regret my laptop doesn't run SH4 too well, if it did I'd play it much more. But on the other hand - I'm glad it doesn't couse it would ruin my stidues.

And I am waiting (im)patiently for the add on, even if the operations of Krigsmarine in that area were much less important compared to the Atlantic theatre. I would like to see something new and I hope the devs will do their best to provide us with as bug-free product as they can.

My few cents

Maciej

Nice post here KP, having played the game from almost the beginning it is nice to see SH4 starting to get the credit it deserves. It's only going to get better.
Folks need to move on from the whole SH3 and 4 comparison, play em' both, enjoy em' both.

Comparing the two games is a total waste of time in my view. They both helped to evolve the submarine simulation genre. The Add On for SH4 will allow the modders to create a full Atlantic campaign within SH4, but that won't diminish the game that SH3 has become with the superb mod additions to that game.

Well if your friend works in a gamestore, its probably true for pre-ordering. Besides, I believe continental Europeans get it faster (less distance to ship)

does anyone know if any features from this expansion could be used to make SH3 or SH4 sub wolfpacks a reality?

It might be possible yes, you'll have to ask some of the modders around here. It'd be cool if it was possible to merge SH3 bases into SH4, and have some spawning ships around the atlantic. That'd pretty much be the entire WW2 submarine war right there.
