I quit Facebook.
Glad I'm not addicted to the stupid smart phone.
I have one that I only use for emergencies when away from my abode. I already have a mate so, I'm not cruising for chicks anymore and I really have no need to personally interact with the other humans beyond a closed circle of friends and those who man cash registers in stores. Besides, going out in public costs money. Something I have a very limited supply of. Then there's the inherent dangers and prohibitive expense of driving to consider too. I sowed my wild oats in my younger days and find it an extremely boring activity today. My children are grown and they have families of their own to keep them busy so, I see no need to interfere in their day to day activities.

Many times when I wander in the city center I see people walk forward next to their friends while his head is bend over his mobile phone being more worried what happens to his FB/Twitter and god knows what live feed then bothering with the ones walking next to him. Same thing on a Terrace having a drink either one or both of them are bend over their smartphones. I find that kind of sad really

It's always the ones you haven't discovered that cause you the most grief.

How can you find out how many "friends" someone has on Facebook?
Just wait, they will tell you. It is somewhat funny for us, on a video game website forum, commenting on a video, we see on the Internets Tubes about how bad it is to have only online "friends".

and mine, no cages on the rat trap pedals but everything else the same. I had three of them. One for running one for parts and one I wrecked.

I quiet enjoy introducing the solar system to my younger protege.
Whenever we want to talk to him.. I just pull the RJ45 plug, and he comes out of his dark corner.. moaning I then point to the front door and say 'Away with you, peasant'. He then goes for his run around the school field, then an hours worth of school revision. This happens 2x day.. if we're lucky.. but certainly 1x. Sometimes he's a bit late in getting back - HE MEETS REAL PEOPLE !! Which is the whole idea anyway.. but otherwise he's doing good so far. Then I put the RJ plug back in I'm a 'horrible parent' to my kids.. but i enjoy it. |

It really does cut both ways. My nose is often buried in my phone, but 10-20-30 yrs ago it would have been a book or a newspaper instead. Is that bad? A smart phone is better than a book or newspaper.
But as for raising kids - yes, send them outside. I spent most days outdoors as a kid. That cuts both ways too! I've never started a major fire by accident on the internet, for example. |
