In the name of get a grip and wake up! Toffboy was warned last summer about risks of flooding this winter and was advice to do something now as in then before the floods happen and he said no. Now Toffboy is making out he is on the case, too bloody late and if he did care he would have acted before to prevent the flooding.

Eric Pickles: 'We should have dredged'

Communities Secretary Eric Pickles says the government "made a mistake" and should have dredged the flood-hit Somerset Levels.

Speaking on the Andrew Marr Show, he apologised "unreservedly" to those affected by the flooding.

But he refused to "nudge" Lord Smith of Finsbury out of his position as head of the Environment Agency.

Flood waters rose 3cm on his arrival.

He found himself the butt of the joke in the Commons yesterday, when George Osborne dubbed him "the model of lean government".

David Cameron has said that every home in the country will be protected by flood defense equipment in the future.

And when they are, he will introduce the new 'sandbag' tax.

It's pretty shameful that some councils are charging the needy for sandbags when the government have already stated publicly that they will reimburse all councils the cost of such an outlay/service.

I think there is a element of no trust in the government as they say one thing and go on to do the opposite.

Probably but that didn't help the woman on Sky News today who was charged £240 for 40 sandbags by her local council today.
