Dowly what's that texturepack you are using? Looks nice.

I'll trade for sand. What do you need on return?

Also I've filled in most of the lake outside my house. I left a moat around Kraut hill and a B S Johnson fish pond around the citadel. Probably doubled the building area there.

Why, trample this sample I offer in example:

Does it make any sense? By elevating the dirt and the water one tile above the floor, and by covering the water with, for example, glass, there's no more need to step on the precious tilled soil.
For an ingame example, feel free to visit my greenhouse on top of the mountain I build my house in. (from spawn, go northeast across the water, 'V' points the way. In the backroom is a ladder going up)

1 block of water can supply 4 blocks of tilled dirt around it (in square). So on the other side of the path you can place a strip of dirt 2 blocks wide for which you do not need water.

Code:
  G      G      G      G
_dWd_dd_dWd_dd_dWd_dd_dWd_    etc.

G= glass
d= tilled dirt
W= water
_= walking path

I do a similar thing in my farm underground, but instead of glass I use wood, therefore I can plant whilst standing on the wood, avoiding trampling unless I fall onto the stuff.

I already have a working mob trap on the server that is similiar (my feeding system to the elevator is better than his though), and I use drowning traps rather than lava. It also separates chickens for either eggs or death.

Its throughput its pretty decent even with out lighting up all the surrounding caves, though i only get farm critters at night as i need to get rid of all the surrounding grass.

I'm ditching any and all of my projects in order to build this on the server:

Beats Arrow Tennis by a very wide margin.

Once I stop lagging, that is.

maintenance

Restarted; memory use was rather high while noone was connected. Might try a different garbage collector.

---

Server will be down this weekend, hopefully not more than a few hours. I'm rebuilding it with RAID0, requiring a reïnstall of Windows. Planned for Saturday, I'll post a notice when I start.

Might make a difference in performance, considering it is very dependant on HD access.

Have you considered a ramdisk?

You want me to put everything in volatile memory? What if the power fails?

"What if the power fails?!"

Is this guy even a submariner?

BATTERY!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uninter...e_power_supply

I have 2. It's great. Oh no, the power failed! There goes my unsaved work... No more. With this when the power goes out all I get is an annoying beeping: BEEP! BEEP! And I have about 15 minutes of beeping to save everything and shut the PC down.

They're very expensive and bulky though, and the batteries get old in only a few years and then need replacement.

But having your PC run on a battery is the ultimate statement of hardcore submersible spirit! Either that, or having a personal a nuclear reactor...

I, for instance, when suffering a flood in Silent Hunter 3, will grab a jug of water to dump over my Battery UPS, simulating, or better yet, reenacting in full realism the effects of toxic fumes. Dead is dead. For real.

What!?! You don't make regular backups?

Last weekend I set up my own minecraft server using MineOS+ ( http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewto...?f=10&t=275177) The server is actually a virtual machine in Hyper-V (= 'virtual pc' for Windows Server 2008 R2). I have plenty ram in it so I could afford it to make it set up a ramdisk. It required some linux commands (note: I am very linux-noob) but I have it backing up the ramdisk to physical disk (ok, virtual harddisk file) every 15 minutes automatically. It's all explained in the videos on youtube that Hexparrot made. (Youtube nick: MineOSadmin)

But depending on your hardware it may not be a possibility.

Back-seat driving?

Arc, use some of that cheese to get a mouse on a treadmill going. That's emergency back-up PSU sorted.

Well call me crazy, but I'm not going to buy UPS for the 0.0001% chance the power actually fails here.

And yes, I realise that really undermines my previous argument.

As for RAMdisk; to the best of my knowledge the software only created an image at the end of a session, but I guess I should have expected the possibility to have it save more often.

So that might be an option then: who's gonna pay for the 4GB memory kit to replace the current 2GB one?

(and would it work on Win7?)

I'm afraid they're reserved for the coffee maker, and charging my cell phone so I can order pizza.
