I really dislike what are called "boy bands", like Menudo, BTS, etc.; first, there's the whole "band" label, a gross misnomer, since they never actually play any instruments; then there's the whole silly posturing and posing they do they try to pass off as 'dancing'; the whole genre seems to exist as some sort of record label wet dream, acts they can market, costing the label really very little, with the ability to totally control every aspect of the "artists" performances; in a number of these "boy bands", even the individual members are expendable and interchangeable with little or no effect on the "bands" or their fans; Menudo had a very long run and prospered, all the while sacking and replacing members who outgrew the "boy" identification; all in all, a textbook exercise in crass commercial marketing and profiting...

...but, wait: it seems the record labels may have even more reason to expect to really pad out their profit statements; Boston Dynamics, whose robotics division has done remarkable things with mechanical devices, has now given the labels a whole new "boy band" concept; these guys will never age, will never complain, will never incur legal problems, and will not demand only imported kimchi in their dressing rooms as part of their contract riders...

...they may still demand the removal of all brown M&Ms from the snack bowls, though...

Odd, when I played that clip, I could swear I heard my microwave oven swoon...
