The Statsraad Lehmkuhl from Bergen on a visit!
I know that ship it now has a Kongsberg hybrid propulsion system. (former Großherzog Friedrich August built before WW1 for the "Deutsche Schulschiff-Verein" at the Joh. C. Tecklenborg wharf in Geestemünde, went to England as a reparation after WW1, then bought and operated by Norway as a training/drill ship) Must have been quite an expericence to guide the barque into port Thanks Jim for the photos!

Haven't updated this thread for quite a while but knowing some of you on here have taken a genuine interest in my lads career I thought now was as good a time as any for an update.
James continues to progress in his role as a maritime pilot on the Tees and as such he is off to represent the UK Maritime Pilots Association by travelling to Brisbane, Australia on 17th in preparation for his role as UK representative at the Australation Maritime Pilots Institute conference at Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea on 27th. https://ampi.org.au/conferences/png-2024/ That is one trip I wish I could accompany him on.

Congratulations to you Jim, young Jim and your entire family. This is of course proof positive that hard work and diligence do pay off, for most. I'm sure young James will have many more momentous occasions in the years to follow, both in his career and life in general.
Well done. |

Cheers Robert, James has just been around to print both his visas for Australia and Papua New Guinea.
I spoke to a cousin I have who lives on the Gold Coast (Brisbane) and mentioned James had four days on his own prior to travelling to the conference and he has committed to entertaining James if he so wishes. So everything is looking good atm.

I presume your son have learn to navigate old style as well as with the new style.
Just watched an issue on my news channel and it was about Jamming the GPS in the Baltic sea and a Captain on a ferry, said that they had problem navigating due to misinformation from GPS. My thoughts when watching it -Well then skip the electronics and do it like they did 100 years ago. Markus
