You become infectous 12-18 hours after exposition to a sufficient load of virus (not every virus contact causes an infection, also, the heavier the load in case of infection, the more serious your symptoms tend to be, thats why if you get infected you want to get infected by as low a load as possible - so wear that damn face mask, even if it is just textile, or just FFP1 or even less!!). Every little bit of prpotecitonm against big drops, fine aerosol, smearing, reduces the virus load reachign your nose, eyes. Incubation time usually is between 2 and 14 days. On that cruise liner, however, the CDC found active virus on surfaces even after 17 days. Some say the incubation time can even extend to 27 days - four weeks, but we are not certain on that, it may be possiblel,. but seems to be rare. Incubation time means the time between infection and actually building symptoms and so making you aware that you are sick. Antibodies get build in the second week after infection took place, most often it seems to be aorund day 7-10, I read some days ago. The virus you spread by your own infected cell machinery should be no longer infectous after around 1 week, they say. That means you produce these virusses in your cells, but even if you spread these, they cannot infect others anymore. I would not trust that too much and read it 14 days minimum. Also, you still can infect others by smear ifnection with virusses you pick up from external surfaces: these virusses still are active, of course. An often quoted average for how long people not going to hospital, but who are sick at home and indeed feel like that, is around 2 weeks, and then another week where they still feel like a dog that was driven over, very weak and needing to regenerate. Another problem ist asymptomatic cases, amongst them people who are ill, can heavily infect others who then become ill - but the spreader not forming any symptoms himself. These are dangerous people, not because they necessarily are irresponsible, but because they think they are healthy. They just do not know they are ill. All this is the reason why Trump'S bid for Easter weekend ending the whole show is so stupid and dangerous. Three weeks may show to just not being long enough. Many people in the US cannot afford to get themsleve stested or havign health care. They go to their job out of need, evben if they are ill. Thjis must be prevented, by extended lock down, and by having every testing paid for by the state. Its in everybody's interest, socialism has nothing to do with it. It should is communal, economic and state egoism that commands that the state pays for every testing, and to compensate those who are tested positively for not going to work. Most people who got infected, form symptoms after 5-7 days. 14 days often is said as well, but probably due to economic pressure, to get the people back to jobs as early as possible. A dangerous game. This all is not about curing it, but to delay the peak in case numbers and win time. For research. For preparation. For getting over the usual seasonal flu cases in hospitals so that they do noit block as many beds. For making masks and protective suits and desinfectants. For getting some stress out of the system and getting hospital staff some time to breathe. For getting drugs, not just tests. What we need is creeping towards herd immunity without case numbers at any time knocking out hospital capacities. A lock down buys us desperately needed time, it does not solve the problem. Before assuming you want to get the bug now, because there are still places in hospital, consider also that the desease is very painful and means 2-3 weeks of agony if you get hospitalised, with a fair chance for you to not survive it. We hoped that 80% of ill people can stay in home quarantione and only 20% get hospitalised, but it seems the numbers indicate more a 70-30 ratio. You do not want to get this desase so heavily that you get hospitalised as long as it cannot be cured by drugs. Its painful, very, and it often is followed by lung complications lasting for the rest of your life. And youth does not leave you invulnerable. The younger ones can and do get it, too, and they can and do die of it, just not as often as older ones. Its a very severe and nasty bug. Stay at home. Take a time out. Wear a mask, no matter what it is, anything is better than nothing. The asians are wiodnering why we do not wear masks. We get told they do nto work, but they do, to varying degrees, they tlel us not to wear them so to have them in hopsitals, becasue the offiocials did not prepare sufficnently, and they tell us we should not wear them so that we get infected and the population creeps towards heard immunity. But it is your health, and you take all the risks. Best way to get herd immunity is by getting a shot into people's arms. And kick that Texas governor, it made me sick to listen to (-> reading) his garbage of the elderly loving to sacrifice themselves and himself wanting to sacrifice himself as well. I certainly do not stop you, Sir - please take the lead and set the example! A small step for you, a great relief for your nation.

^^ +1 for cleverness
So now nations are hoarding? Looks we will be back in the middle ages again, when international cooperation is all that really matters now

Deaths surge by 655 in Spain, taking total to nearly 4,100
The number of deaths in the UK has risen to 465, out of 9,500 confirmed cases. The US has almost 70,000 confirmed cases and at least 1,050 deaths. But New York state, the worst affected, says social restrictions are slowing hospital admissions. Although infections are slowing in Italy, deaths are rising in the poorer south. In the UK, financial support for the self-employed is due to be unveiled. US Senate passes $2 trillion stimulus bill, which includes $1,200 for most adults. In China, no new cases were reported in Hubei province, where the virus emerged.

Im in the middle of another email exchange with a Japanese internet buddy with whom I occasionally play email-chess. If I may quote him word by word from his mail last night: "Why are you silly people in your part of the world not wearing face masks?"
I know the first part of my email to him today, it will be Bishop Echo Five , but the second part of that mail to answer his question I am still calculating. I am clueless what to reply. Becasue if I make my move "Because we have none", he will counter that easily with his move "Why not?", and that is check mate. In the state I live in, lock down and not-more-than-two will be in place until at least April 19th, government says. Thats more than three weeks. Thats good, should get a full incubation cycle covered and than some safety time. Farmers have big problems since foreign season workers have been locked out as a matter of fact. Parts of the fruits and vegetable harvest will be lost.
