Been busy with real life lately. Not much time to spend on Subsim. Last week, got my son off to welding school. It's Hobart Welding school. It's supposed to be one of the best in the US. This week I'm helping with fire training all around Kentucky. Then various projects that will take rest the summer.

Why ask me? I don't know anything. I don't even know what a "lind" is.

Not really. I was told about it by "someone else".

I guess If I edit that typo, the subsequent posts will have to be deleted or they'll make no sense; I'll come out of it just fine

The heat is on again here in the south. Too many people walking around near on naked, that is to say the naughty bits are still covered just.
Time for a cup of coffee while i listen to some podcasts.

After a good many years on eBay I've eventually come across an overdue item so time to see if the resolution centre is effective.

VICTORY FEVER!
WHILE SAILING YESTERDAY ON THE SF'S SAN PABLO BAY, I SUDDENLY HAD AN ATTACK OF POST-TRAUMATIC-SH-SYNDROME AS MY UNBELIEVING EYES SPOTTED A FAVORITE GAMES TARGET VESSEL : SS RED OAK VICTORY MOORED AT THE CALIFORNIA MARITIME ACADEMY'S BERTH AT THE MOUTH OF THE NAPA RIVER. I MANAGED A POOR PHOTO WITH MY ANCIENT VERIZON FLIP-PHONE> APPARENTLY SAID VESSEL WAS ON AN OUTING FROM ITS Rosie the Riveter/World War II Home Front National Historical Park BERTH IN NEARBY RICHMOND CA. LAUNCHED IN 1944 FROM THE KAISER SHIPYARD IN NEARBY RICHMOND, THE VESSEL SURVIVED SERVICE IN WWII, KOREA AND VIETNAM! I'VE BEEN ABOARD THE LIBERTY CLASS JEREMIAH O'BRIEN IN SF'S FISHERMANS WHARF MANY TIMES BUT HAD NEVER SEEN A VICTORY CLASS MERCHANT IN REAL LIFE BEFORE...MUCH LESS INSTANTLY KNOWING WHAT I WAS LOOKING AT...FROM OBVIOUS LONG HOURS OF A.O.D., SH II, OR SH V!! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SS_Red_Oak_Victory

I was just outside watching a Spitfire aerobatting over the fields in this blazing July weather. A guy stopped his car up the road when he saw me and got out for a look. "That's a birdie!" he called out... "A sound from my childhood". "Nothing like it" I replied. "You get four in a Lanc", he said, then got back in his car and went. These old planes engender such good feeling between people now... a strange thing when you consider what they were built for

Aviation, planes and seeing them fly 'live' at those special days are always a magnet for people, unconnected from politics or what harm you can do with planes.
The enthusiasm for flight, beginning in France and then spreading fast has though never been as big as in the beginning of flight, from before WW1 well into the 1930ies. There is a real good book about the pioneer spirit "A Passion for Wings: Aviation and the Western Imagination, 1908-1918" (e.g. here: https://www.amazon.com/Passion-Wings.../dp/0300068875). It is less technical stuff but the impact that aviation and this spirit had on the people, and which i still feel. There are not much (if any) german warbirds of this time left in Germany, so we almost never see them flying 'just so'. They have been either destroyed, delivered for reparations, or just scrapped later. Very few are being restored, mostly abroad, and mostly the 109, and the FW 190. The last restored Heinkel 111 crashed a few years ago in the USA or so i read. I admit i find this special whine of the DB engine with its howling supercharger is awesome.. but maintaining this kind of engines costs a fortune .
