Guys if I may, I have a question, now the first GW had an absolutely amazing following, really tremendous its still in use I'm sure by plenty. I don't know if Penelope ever mentioned this before, but, I got a mate of mine into SH3 as well as her, and he is still using the first Grey Wolves.
Basically, when was the decision made to make GWX a reality taken?

The short version of this story goes like this: Kpt.Lehmann joins Subsim; Kpt.Lehmann ask lots of questions; People get tired of answering Kpt.Lehmann's questions; People tell Kpt.Lehmann to fix it himself; Kpt.Lehmann 'grabs' the name "Grey Wolves" and starts to put a team together. The original Grey Wolves Mod is born, a little over 2 years ago. A correct version of this story can be found in the manual under the heading 'A Word from Kpt.Lehmann'. Now, the original TGW mod was an accumilation of tweaks/fixes/graphical/sound additions from the community and the TGW team. With some trully ground breaking stuff added in for good measure. It was considered by many to be just an 'eye-candy' mod. <shudder>. So, the time was right for the Grey Wolves Team to submerge and gather around the cooking pot and start brewing GWX. GWX is without doubt, the single largest 'overhaul' of SH3. This included entirely new Sensors/Campaigns/Damage Model/Ships/Aircraft/Loading Screens/Sounds etc, the majority of which was created, from scratch, by the GWX Devs. With the additional files a new strategy was required to handle the strain of the extra content. The decision was made to include all texture files in thier respective DAT file, thus keeping GWX accessable to people on SH3's recommened specs. This was a bold & genius step to take and could have ended their journey there & then. Many people forget the amount of additional content added by GWX. However, just the other day I had cause to install and run Stock SH3, not only did I find myself in an alien environment (not recognising any screens) but I took the opportunity to compare file sizes. Heve not loaded into Stock SH3 for over 2 years. Based on the upcoming GWX 1.04, it's safe to say GWX is almost SH3 twice over. I don't speak from experience here but I know that for some of the GW/GWX Devs, it has at times, a hard fought battle and IMHO they have earned thier place at the top. I know KL is very bust at the moment but if he feels like reminiscing, I'm sure he will reply in good time.

Well, shucks Danlisa... I'm not sure what to say now guys.
All I can think to say at the moment, is that neither GW or GWX would have ever seen the light of day without the helping hands of many. |

Well, as our testers have witnessed... I think the hardest part is simply to get everything working together comprehensively.
Very real work for all who have been/are involved. As they say though... If it was easy, everyone would do it. |
