Welcome back Steed, time to get back in and enjoy the mighty IX's

On another note. Am tempted to upgrade to the mighty sea cow IXD for some longer patrols. Anyone recommend the IXD over the IXB?

IXD has more torps and you should be a darn good kapitan as she is a beast of a boat. I sailed many times with them based at Penang helping are Japanese friends out.

Outperforms in every area (the important areas that is) apart from diving time

yeah diving time is shocking, you have about 1 trillionith of a second to decide whether you should dive when aircraft are spotted or stay on the surface and fight it out. Any longer and your have no choice but to stay on the surface.

Diving time is not a major requirement for me as I am only on the surface for air and at night for faster travel. Was more looking at the fact that it has a faster running time, longer distance and more torps.

Oh yep i get what you mean, i haven't played that way since playing "Wolves at War" nearly 2 years ago now, especially when getting out of the bay of biscay. Our orders were to surface at night and submerge during the day.

Speaking of WAW i wonder if its still going:hmm:

I like type IX for its long range and more torps

I started my first career in IX about 18 months ago, version IUB 1.02, with type IXB U-123. 9 patrols from Sep.1939 to Aug 1940, and then aborted.

My first career in GWX 1.03, I used IXC U-129, 4 patrols and sunk by planes near AM 52

Now I started a new career with VIIB U-48, from Sep.1939. Until June 1940, 5 patrols accomplished, sinking 4 Nelsons and 2 Revenges Planning to buy a new IXC in 1941, and a XXI in 1944.
I also wish to buy an IXD2 or IXC/40 in 1942/43, but buying a new type IX boat shall take 4 months, which means no patrol and no renown for 4 months
