Yep, that's where mine came from, South Shields Asda

Default Morland "Hen's Tooth"

Bottle-conditioned (so there's a very lively, frothy head) deep amber ale; 6.5% ABV so a powerful flavour with a rich honeyed quality. This was £1.75 at Tesco and well worth it.

Default Wychwood "King Goblin"

"Special Reserve", £1.75 from Tesco, 6.6% ABV

A dark ruby ale with a broad, fruity, only slightly bitter taste. I sat down with this after cutting the grass today (the first hot day of the year here) and it was so much the better for it

The wife and daughter have just been out food shopping and they brought back a pack of this ale for me. They said that as soon as it caught their eyes it reminded them of me....the cheeky buggas

Sorry, I thought you already knew what the term meant

Good find on the Peculier, possibly my all time favourite.

Came across this little selection (chosen by me) in ASDA today but the iPhone camera isn't too happy with the lighting conditions so I'll refer to each brew using third party shots.

This first one comes with an interesting link to music and history too.

Quote:
Onward, onward rode the 600...
The Charge of the Light Brigade, which inspired the Iron Maiden song The Trooper, took place at the Battle of Balaclava (1854) during the Crimean War when 600 British cavalry courageously charged the massed Russian artillery. This gallant but foolhardy assault resulted in a massive loss of life and came about due to a misunderstanding of an order given by the commanding officer, Lord Raglan.
Launched in 2013, Trooper is an award winning Premium British Beer that has sold over 15 million pints worldwide. Iron Maiden vocalist Bruce Dickson worked with Robinsons to develop a beer which has true depth of character. Malt flavours and citric notes from a unique blend of Bobek, Goldings and Cascade hops dominate this deep golden ale with a subtle hint of lemon.

Enjoyed this little beauty last night whilst watching Liverpool v Roma and as was the case with Trooper (above) there is also a military connection.

Quote:
Adnams Broadside commemorates the fierce battle of Sole Bay fought against the Dutch Republic in 1672 off the Southwold coast, just across the green from our brewery.

Brewed with Pale Ale and Chocolate malt and First Gold hops, Broadside is a dark ruby red beer rich in fruitcake aromas, almonds and conserved fruit.

Yes I had that before a few times and it's very good... over 6% I think?

Just looked it up... 6.3%

Last night I opened the bottle of Sharp's Atlantic which was a tad silly of me seeing as how the first beer hardly touches the sides.

Whilst not fully benefitting the flavour because of the above I feel I can say it was enjoyable, well I'd certainly remember if it wasn't.

Quote:
Deep golden in colour, Atlantic has a vibrant fruity aroma redolent of lime zest to mango. The flavour is harmonious balance of barley sugar and grapefruit with a refreshingly crisp citrus linger.

Default Wychwood "Gold Hobgoblin"

£1.25 from Tesco, 4.5% ABV

A very pale, full-flavoured and resinous, hoppy ale. Very good lasting flavour

This lovely taster is the sister beer to the famous 'Double Maxim'. A strong premium ale brewed with a hint of Demerara sugars. Dark ruby in colour, Maximus has a sweet liquorice taste that is warming and easy to drink.

Went down well with a beef madras.

Default SPAR small bottles of IPA

Two bought at the local 'Spar' today: "Goose IPA" (355ml) from the USA and "Punk IPA" (330ml) brewed & bottled in Scotland; both a very pale yellow colour

The "Goose" (an award-winner at the Great American Beer Festival) tastes almost exactly the same as the Gold Hobgoblin I reviewed recently... except more bitter. It has an extremely hoppy smell, too.

"Punk", on the other hand, smells distinctly of grapefruit, and is less bitter, i.e. it has some sweetness which takes this down quite a bit, without reducing the breadth of flavour. It has less of a frothy head on it than the 'Goose'

Moira didn't keep the receipt, but it would seem that the US beer was £2.25, reflecting its import status, and the Scottish ale was £1.95 or £1.99... quite pricey for small bottles but this probably reflects the convenience store price-point

Had this little beauty whilst watching the Spurs match on tv last night and it immediately enters my all time top ten.

A deceptively drinkable golden ale. Finest English Flagon barley, Goldings and Challenger hops deliver balanced flavours of crisp malt and subtle hop, with a delicate pear drop aroma.

This one was consumed whilst watching the Real Madrid match last night and automatically enters my all time top ten as well.

Inspired by the cunning countryside fox, this moreish auburn ale combines the biscuity and aromatic qualities of our speciality malts with the citrus hop charge of Celeia and Cascade hops. A refreshing beer ideal with spicy Mexican dishes.
