Schematics, used to love giving them to the apprentices and see the look of dismay on their faces...."How come the drawing shows the hydraulic pump at the rear of the engine when the fitting bracket is at the side"? LOL

It's not that exciting, it's the layout/description of shipping consignment data from us to our Norwegian lords and masters.

Ah, right....I used to work on hydraulics and pneumatics systems schematics and they would look like a bowl of spaghetti or a ball of wool until you got used to them

Before....I underwent an apprenticeship (4 years duration) as a shipyard mechanical fitter from the age of 16 to 20 then went into the merchant navy as an engineering officer for a couple of years after that.

I was an apprentice fitter learning a trade for four years in a shipyard on the Tyne then upon qualifying I joined a shipping company as an engineering officer.

I have also worked for an American company called Grove based in Shady Grove, Pennsylvania assembling and testing mobile cranes/access platforms/all terrain vehicles at one of there former plants in Pallion, Sunderland.

I am 54 years of age and have worked since the age of 16 so there are a couple more positions I have filled during my working career.

There is only so much satellite tv you can watch before you realise there are still working opportunities out there.....I currently work approximately 30 hours per week (part-time) and have the enviable choice of whether I go in from day to day or not, so I'm not complaining.

Funny, I'm just the opposite. Between research, music and just amusing myself, my time is full. In fact, when I was working I wished I could have the time to do all the things I wanted. Now I do. On the other hand, I may have to find a part-time job just to make more money. The bad side to that is, anything I earn up to the pension amount will just be taken away from the pension itself, so I'd have to work full-time just to make the extra.

That's why Jim needs to make another trip to the US. So, if Jim were to come to the US again, I could arrainge for a PT boat ride and a pallet of newcastle pale ale.
