Speaking of tail numbers, you can find a very detailed list of them at:

http://joebaugher.com/

Just page down and select Army/Air Force, Navy/Marines, or Coast Guard.

These are long lists based on aircraft type and year (the year refers to when the aircraft was ordered, not built). Joe's "hit-to-miss" ratio is very high although there are some slight errors, but they are very rare.

Nope but your getting warmer, The musketoon doesn't break open. I wish i'd bought the one that was offered when I got my Two band Enfield> Here's another shot of this puzzle> BIG HINT: the troops did not like this weapon as the round casing tended to jam in the breech when fired.

nope you're getting warm go up .02 calibre; The Sharps breech lowers to load, the weapon I'm posting 'breaks' to load. Both are single shot weapons. My own .45-70 round Shiloh Sharps ciarbine is a superior weapon to the puzzle: easier to load and no jamming on extraction...especially when on a fractious horse in a re-enactment.

Bingo! It is the Gallagher carbine, the leather ring would hold the barrel to the saddle while slung to the rider by the clip-on to the carbine ring to prevent loss in a gallop. The percussion cap spare in the stock's patchbox was indicative of the inferior weapon's blackpowder fouling tendency. The brass shell had no primer and each was wrapped in nitrate paper to insure ignition from the percussion cap which caused the casing to jam...not good in the midst of battle...hence its unpopularity with troopers. My own is an ERMA Werke reproduction and I've the mold to cast the .54 caliber minie balls...slightly smaller than the .58 Springfield or .577 Enfield full infantry rifled-musket.
Over to U-crank!
