The aircraft seems to have some coverings. Is that because of cold weather?

edit: Ah, it is "Dixon's Coin", indeed submarine-related – found in the CSS Hunley! The Legend According to legend, Hunley Captain George Dixon was given a $20 gold coin by his sweetheart when he left for war. During the Battle of Shiloh, Dixon was shot. The bullet struck the coin in his trouser pocket, absorbing the impact of the shot and sparing his life. Countless legends are born during war, but few are ever proven. For 137 years, no one knew whether the story was a historical fact or a romantic tale passed from generation to generation. A Legend Becomes Reality During the excavation of the Hunley, a gold coin minted in 1860 was discovered lying on Dixon’s hip bone. It was warped from the impact of a bullet, and traces of lead were discovered on the coin. One side bears the image of Lady Liberty, and the other has been sanded and inscribed" Shiloh April 6th 1862 My life Preserver G. E. D." https://www.hunley.org/artifacts/ ^ Really interesting and worth reading

^ thank the Lord indeed
Sorry @Aktungbby, I thought it was enough to identify the type of coin, and when and where it was made, but this unfolding story of the finding, the civil war legend of blocking a bullett and the submarine context with the CSS Hunley and Dixon gets of course much further than this

INDEED given him by Queeny Bennet, his 17 year old lady. He gave her an engraved locket in return: surely such a pair must have had a chocolate or two. As for the money involved: the reward for anyone sinking a Charleston blockade ship such as the USS Housatonic was set at $50,000 dollars over a million in today's value. Hence the inspiration by W.L Hunley et al to build a very advanced reduction-geared schnorkel-equipped hydro dynamic submersible. The schnorkel was found not extended. After his close encounter at Shiloh
Lt Dixon he had it inscribed Considering my own shattered left hip/fermur on 4/6/1981 in a gun cleaning accident restoring a WWII .380 Luftwaffe Beretta relic pistol, with a resultant steel pin surgery; I could have used a coin in my own pocket! OVER TO CATFISH officially! He's passed the trueer test!

^ Thanks, this is really a fascinating story, if not for Dixon and the Hunley's crew!
My riddle is much more mundane.. @Mapuc: "Front of a Fighter plane from WWII." ts ts, 3 questions but ok: yes. @Jim: 2 questions.. so.. American / no @u crank: Not because of the weather afaik

The other question that begs is the mistake in history crediting the Dutch for inventing the 'snuiver' or schnorkel device used by U-boats...clearly a desperate Confederate concept: with the candle lit and the blue phosphorous lamp, signaling success" :"start bonfires to navigate back home" in the heavy tidal current, seen by witnesses on shore and a crewman aboard the stricken Housatonic; all consuming precious oxygen good for approx. two hours of cranking by 7 grown men, the issue is of great importance. I'll have a post on the 17th, the date of the Hunley's sinking, with a better theory of the sinking.... after the first successful submarine attack in history https://www.hunley.org/lost-hunley-c...rine-vanished/
