Have a dual install

There are lots of threads on those

Simple way is to rename your SilentHunterIII folder
EG
C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\GWX 1.03

Put the DVD back in the drive
Click install
Repair

You will then get a new SilentHunterIII folder which you can then patch to 1.4

Default Questions

From u-boat.net:
Quote: At 05.48 hours on 16 May, 1941, the unescorted Rodney Star (Master Samuel John Clement) was hit in the stern by one of two torpedoes from U-105 about 420 miles west-southwest of Freetown. The ship was hit in the bow and amidships by two coups de grâce at 06.20 and 07.46 hours, but remained afloat. The U-boat surfaced and fired 91 high explosive rounds and 22 incendiary rounds from the deck gun into the waterline. Shortly before the ship sank by the stern in 05°08N/19°15W at 09.30 hours, a shell exploded in the barrel which was tore apart and wounded six men of the gun crew. :unquote.

This example brings me to ask: will we get AP and starshell ammo back for the deck gun in GWX 1.04?

Also, I have noted that in GWX 1.03 I am no longer able to adjust ambient volume on my hydrophones ..... will this be corrected in 1.04?

The new AI subs look great.
Can we have AI u-boats in campaign mode, to hunt as part of a wolfpack?
I know from the Norwegian invasion in 1.03 that other u-boats are out there on the map ..... it would be nice to actually meet up with one or more.

That's an interesting note. We've had many discussions on this subject, and most sources say HE only.
My main source is John Campbell's Naval Weapons Of World War Two, which specifies AP and Starshell for destroyers and minesweepers, which implies not for u-boats, but doesn't say it directly.

I've just finished looking at the U-105 listings at www.uboat.net (no hyphen), and I can't find you're quote. could you please post a direct link so we can read it?

It is actually to be found in the u-boat.net "members" section under "ships attacked". Exact text is as follows:
Name:Rodney Star. Type:Steam merchantTonnage:11.803 tonsCompleted:1927 - Lithgows Ltd, Port Glasgow Owner:Blue Star Line Ltd, London Homeport:London Date of attack:16 May, 1941Nationality: British Fate:Sunk by U-105 (Georg Schewe)Position:05.03N, 19.02W - Grid ET 7133 - See location on a map -Complement:83 (0 dead and 83 survivors).Convoy:Route:Fray Bentos, Uruguay - Santos - Freetown - Glasgow Cargo:7000 tons of refrigerated and general cargo History:Built as Rodneystar, 1929 renamed Rodney Star
Notes on loss:At 05.48 hours on 16 May, 1941, the unescorted Rodney Star (Master Samuel John Clement) was hit in the stern by one of two torpedoes from U-105 about 420 miles west-southwest of Freetown. Shortly before the ship sank by the stern in 05°08N/19°15W at 09.30 hours, a shell exploded in the barrel which was tore apart and wounded six men of the gun crew.
The survivors were picked up after six days by HMS Boreas (H 77) (LtCdr D.H. Maitland-Makgill Crichton) and Batna and landed at Takoradi on 23 May.

While I don't know if any u-boat ever carried starshells (stock SH3 probably got that wrong) we do know from this article that some carried incendiary as well as high explosive shells, so I think that we should at least be allowed our AP ammo back (if not also starshells, which could for this purpose [though it is a bit of a stretch] be classified as incendiary).

Default Error when trying to install

I hope this is the right place to ask. I have just tried SH3 for the first time and would love to have your mod installed. But when I try to install this message pops up:

"an error occurred while trying to read the source file: the sourcefile is corrupted C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII\data\terrainData.BDF "

I have a clean installation and the newest patch. The game works fine whitout the mod. I have tried to uninstall and install but that doesnt help. Need help

Thanx!

Welcome to Subsim.

I assume this error message is coming up when you run the GWX installer?

Forgive the copy & paste:

Quote:
Basic Install of GWX

1) Uninstall SH3 via Windows' "Add/Remove programs"
2) Open Windows Explorer and:
- *delete* the folder where you had installed SH3
- *delete* the \My Documents\SH3 folder
3) Reinstall SH3
4) If your SH3 did not come with patch v1.4b already included, install patch v1.4b. Ensure you install the patch that corresponds to your copy of SH3 (Download/DVD/EMEA/US)
5) OPTIONAL: Copy and paste this "clean" install as a backup to avoid the need to follow steps 1-3 if your game becomes corrupt in future
6) Visit the GWX homepage and download into the SAME folder GWX.exe and the five .bin files. While there grab the v1.03 patch
7) Run GWX.exe and follow the installation prompts
8. Run GWX103.exe and follow the installation prompts
9) SH3 COMMANDER USERS: Visit the GWX homepage and download the GWX 1.02+ Cfg files for SH3 Commander and unzip the contents DIRECTLY into your SH3 Commander\Cfg folder.
While you're at the GWX Homepage, grab the MD5 Compare program and the Hash Sets. Check the 5 bin files, the GWX.exe & the 1.03 Patch.exe. This is to make sure that your downloaded parts are complete and not corrupted, which can happen.

At this point, I'll put money on one of the .bin files being corrupt. Please post your results.

Your probably right, the files are smaller than they should be. I also tried to download the 790 meg file at you homepage, that file was 680 megs when it was "finished". So its also corrupted. Now I trie the last option, to download it with torrent. The bad things is that it downloading very slowly. Is there any other place where the file(s) isnt corrupted?

Thanx again

PS. I didnt understand how to use MD5 Mate

What speed connection are you on? Have you tried the single part downloads? They were broken down into parts to stop situations like this. Nothing worse than downloading a large file to find that it is corrupt.

I don't know if the Siegmann link allows download managers but that is your best option this will help to keep the connection alive.

As for MD5 Mate, see this image

You can either put each MD5 Hash in separately or use a combo file to check all parts.

FYI, the MD5 Hash file for the 790mb single download is - d41d8cd98f00b204e9800998ecf8427e - Just put this sequence in the 'Compare single File' section of MD5 Mate and then direct it to the downloaded file. It will then check the integrity of the 790mb file. It can take some time.

If all of this fails, someone could send it to you on disc.

Many thanx for the explanation, too bad I still dont understand MD5Mate But I dont think I need it, the files are obviusly corrupted (since they are 30-100 megs smaller than they should be, tried both the smaller and the big fileverison of you mod) I guess my last hope is the torrent version. The downloadspeed is about 25 kb/s, so I have to wait a couple of hours. But its probably worth it considering all the fantastic comments you get here

BTW am I the first one with this kind of problems?

You're the first to have problems with all the files.

But nevermind, we'll get you up & running with GWX eventually.

I only hope that you'll be able to download the 1.03 patch ok, as it's not available as a torrent.
