Well there's a server up... don't think we'll be getting anyone for Raven Shield though.

Is this the thread where we talk about incompetent Wehrmacht soldiers, suicidally brave and somewhat powerful Chaffee tanks and invincible pack mules?

Well, if Men of War fit the original idea for this thread, it should be. If it isn't, then I guess we'll just have to commence a tactical withdrawal towards another thread...

Men of War, Steel Panthers, think it all fits.

Raven Shield bought today for £1, installing as we speak! (Or as I type?)

And I'm guessing latest patches, but what about any mods?

1 bloody pound?! Steal of the decade I'd say.

No mods. What would they do anyway? Make it more realistic?

Speaking of... been poking around some ini files, might do a realism mod for the Vegas weapons, based on R6 3 values. No promises though; I'm not much of a modder and there are over 250 attributes per weapon to sift through...

There's also original R6 games for about 75p

All installed, patched, even registered with Ubi, now I must go to work

Shall we have another Steel Panthers game tonight? The other was quite enjoyable. We may have lost, but we exacted a grave toll upon them!
Would be nice to have an idea of gun range though, my Panthers would have had more luck with the Chaffees if I had been able to get them onto the right part of the hill. More cover would have been nice too, but you can't always have that, and the Americans had all the Vietnamese forest on that map.

I'm up for it, of course.

You can get the range by right clicking on a unit to get the info, or going to the game's unit encyclopedia and looking through the stats. Each hex is 50 meters, so you can get a rough idea from that.

Our problem was not lack range, the hideously murderous tank battle with the Chaffee platoon was fought at literally point blank. We couldn't shoot them from farther away, because they were in some really inconvenient terrain that blocked the view (Damn those Vietnamese!). Infantry would have been useful there, but ours was incompetent and began fleeing as soon as they got shot a couple of times.

Yes the terrain on that map was pretty terrible. It's a pity I lost my scout car to those Wolverines, their flank was terribly weak, I could have captured most of those victory locations in a blitzkrieg move.

Perhaps we should try 1940 Germany vs France tonight?

Ah, good games overall. Here's what I thought:

The assault on the Dutch went off pretty well; their positions were good, but they had too little forces and no heavy weapons to hold the line with. Oberon's attack on the south was a little undermanned and stalled for a bit, but when the north collapsed it was over for them.

The US/Vie...err...Soviet night battle went...erm...about as well as one would expect something like that to go. Within minutes the field was littered with smoke, fire, burning hulks, destroyed buildings (courtesy of Task Force's half-tracks) and other assorted messes (and crickets! Damn them!). I'm actually rather impressed by the death trap defence-in-depth the AI set us up for there, must have been terrifying for some of those road columns rolling along in the middle of the night and suddenly having molotov cocktails thrown on top of them by concealed infantry and coming under field gun fire from all sides.

As for the lag later in the game, Steam apparently decided that was the best time to download the new Assault Squad patch (which hasn't been officially released yet!), so that's the likely explanation for that.

I still reckon it was cricket based sabotage. They must have also caused my Calliope to commit suicide. It's got nothing to do with the fact that I thought that I had selected the jeep and sent it off to scout but in fact I still had the Calliope selected...

Yeah, my advance in the south against the Dutch ran into trouble because they had put their fortifications just out of range of Leo Kessler and his MG on the hill...so I had to pull him forward, and all that did was bring him under fire and make him have a nervous breakdown, and write several novels.
However once the Panzer IIs and the Armoured cars got behind the fortified lines it was all over.

Yes, those crickets. I never though about using them as a torture method.

This game (SPWAW) likes Vietnam maps.
