Used this tactic earlier. Had a V&W coming straight behind me after I got sloppy. Dropped down to PD, had the scope on him and let him get to 2k the fired an eel off. Slammed straight into his front and he sunk away! I popped back up onto the surface and let my crew giggle at him

i do that because for me it just seems like 9 out of 10 times i get most of my opportunities with a perfect set up on a destroyer from behind.

That wasn't very nice...letting your crew giggle at them.

My tips:

- read all you can here. look in old threads.
- be careful
- be patient
I would agree with those tips - follow these and it wiil leas to very successful patrols .

What can I add......
-When firing your eels at a ship, aim just infront of the bridge (any ship), and in most cases it will go down in one.
-If you want to fight it out with aircraft - be my guest, I always avoid them at all costs, as that way has cost me many careers, with me trying to outshoot a Sunderland
-As a way to save on eels, try to finish off lone merchants with your deck gun. (Just make sure that the area is clear of naval/air cover first.)

I am really hoping that the deck gun can really boost my tonnage. No longer will I have to use my flack gun to set a merchant on fire. On my way back to base last time, I spotted two Victory cargo or a combined 15,000 BRT....too bad I had to let them pass.

How do you check for air cover before you surface? Use the observation scope??
