I remember The Avon Lady did an experiment back in SH3. The time it took for the TC to drop to 1 and report the contact was delayed significantly at higher compressions. From I've seen this hasn't been addressed totally. I don't know why the game doesn't scale back its CPU usage when a ship has the possibility of closing your path. At least then the game would be more responsive to drop the TC and give you enough warning when a contact is spotted.
