Default Type IX cut down hull question.

I recently ordered the big revell IXC/40 and it has that odd cut away outer hull on the bow the Germans did late in the war. Does anyone know the name for that? I could also post pictures once I get the kit.

As always, kudos to Torplex who also created my sig's illustration! Bear in mind: All that expensive Deutschmarked engineering to gain the amount of time it takes me to blink 10 times??!
