Shipyard American IPA
See post #198; this has a lovely deep bitterness which I evidently didn't notice last time... although this has a different label and is maybe not even from the same (UK) brewer

I wonder when they moved Portland, Me. to the UK?
I remember when Shipyard first launched. They had a deal with the Portland Seadogs to sell suds at the ball park. I thought it was OK but nothing to write home about. |

^ Yeah I really think they should call it "American Style". I found some 'Scottish' shortbread on sale in Annapolis once... it was made in Japan

I doubt there's anything not already listed on here but a nephew sent this over for my birthday last week.

Fuller's "Honey Dew" Organic Golden Ale
ABV 5%; £1.67 at ASDA
We're always being sold stuff that's flavoured with honey yet turns out to be just plain sweet... well this really tastes of honey and it's beautiful: a lovely soft, golden ale which fizzes on the palate and refreshes

Harper's "Amber Ale"
5% ABV; £1.09 at ALDI
This is delicious! One of those ales where you almost believe that some kind soul added a large shot of rum to it before putting the top on. Caramel and honey are the predominant flavours and it's a darker beer than you might expect from the name. I've put in a request for more with the purser (Moira)

I'll trump that with the couple of one litre bottles of ASDA dark rum I purchased less than two hours ago

Back on page 23, kg6eyr mentioned a beer by Ballast Point. That reminded me that I had tried a beer by them once. "Sculpin". Typical IPA. Very hoppy. A little too much grapefruit for my taste, but overall a good beer. I like IPAs, but the bottle this was in caught my eye. Can you guess why?
Tonight, it's my old standby (in its own special glass), as mentioned by cdrsubron7 on page 10:

Bateman's Triple XB pale ale
4.8% ABV; £2.29 at SPAR
Not pale at all really but quite dark-looking, with a soft honeyed flavour which fizzes gently on the tongue. A beautiful and special supping ale

Burning Sky Imperial Stout 2021
This one was disappointing. Overwhelming wine cork taste to the point of being a tame lambic. Malt is only nice if one can taste it. One I won't be buying again. |

Every time I see that label it takes me back to a seedy bar in New London, CT. where we would hang out after a long day in tech school (AKA A school and C school). It was called The Blue Moon and was staffed by a top heavy bar maid who would earn tips every time she wiped down the bar with a wet rag. One fine evening, we were sitting at the bar and nursing some beers when this grizzly old coot storms out of the men's room with a handful of pipes and water traps, cursing like a sailor. He throws the pipes at a wall and looks like he's ready for a fight. I turn to the bar maid and say, "Hey, you want us to talk to that guy? Maybe escort him out side?" "Nah but thanks. That's my boyfriend- he owns the place." Over time, we all got to be chums. Turned out the owner used to be a member of the local biker gang until he was "asked to retire". |

Years ago, we had an exchange student from Germany join us for a year at my High School in the U.S. We all did our best to make him and other exchange students feel welcome and at home.
We were all at a party and of course had American and Canadian beer. I asked our German exchange student if they get American beer in Germany. He replied yes but American beer is so weak, they use the American beer to wash their cars. He also liked his beer warm which is not something any of us liked. |

Many years ago when I visited England, I met a couple there. She was more the lager type but he preferred the really old school ale, flat and warm. Two of us shook our heads and 1 insisted the other 2 were mad

I'll pass on the warm beer, my friend. A good night at the pub would be ice cold beer, great pizza's, comfy chairs and a great Hockey game on the big screen with which to enjoy all of the above. |
