Alright, I checked the graphic settings and activated vsync.

Sadly it also did not help. I still need to change the resolution in d3d9.ini manually to even start the game and the UI is still 4:3 while the game is 16:9.

But I found that when not using fullscreen it seems to work without editing d3d9.ini. I would be ok with windowed, but sadly the window resolution was 1024x768

I only have the main mod enabled and it works, as soon as I add the widescreen mod it can not initalize the 3d engine unless I edit the file.

Hi v
My d3d9 configuration settings the engine is showing widescreen 16.9 resolution
The engine is replicating my monitor's native resolution.

Interesting, it looks quite different from mine.

This is mine after adding the widescreen mod (could not initalize 3d engine):

Code:

I merged it with yours since using yours resulted in a crash on startup without error message. It started, loading screens where perfect not 4:3 as before, but sadly the main and ingame menu are still 4:3.

Hi v
Did you say you had he video settings box ticked in the options menu?
V-Sync would be an option depending on cicumstances.

I tried both options. It was off by default

In the meantime I did also try the ARB WideGui Mod not included in LSH.
It did work, the map was a little funky but it crashed after a few minutes.

The ARB mods d3d9.ini looked like yours btw.

But I guess I will have to make a fresh install now.
I think I will do that try the LSH Widescreen mod one more time and then just play 4:3 for now if it does not work.

I might report any progress in a few days.

Happy holidays and gute Jagd!

Hi v
With Windows 10 playing with SH3 you must use a compatibility mode like Windows 7, and also your applications like the SH3.exe must be run as an administrator.
Doing a fresh install is not a bad idea make sure your anti-virus firewall is not blocking any of the applications as it treats executives as a threat.

Anyways, I found theberbsters overly collorful "all you ned to know..." thread (something you really should link on the lsh3 homepage). After reading

I still had issues with determining range -
can someone confirm that you not only have to double the mast height from the rec.man. but also take the x10 magnification into account? After counting the horizontal marks, multiplying them by 6 and dividing by 10 i found the ranges check out more or less.
Welcome back. It's good to be back, isn't it?

Concerning your question, you seem to be right - the marks are scaled to a x6 magnification. you either have to calculate on the fly or edit the respective tga in the modfolder. I resized the inner part of the AOBFOuterDisc.tga to 1.66 in scale and it works quite well.

each mark represents 10 mils for a total of 100 mils from the waterline to the "10" mark.

on the UZI/Attack scope at high power (10x), the formula to determine range is:

(height of target in meters) x 4000 /(height of target in mils) = range in meters.

at low power (1.5x),the formula to determine range is:

(height of target in meters) x 600 /(height of target in mils) = range in meters.

for example:

target #1 is a "Coastal Merchant", mast height is 22.7 meters, target height in scope is 90 mils, so

22.7 x 4000 / 90 = 1008 meters.

map reading shows almost 1000 meters

target #2 is a "Small Tanker", mast height is 26.6 meters, target height in scope is 60 mils, so

26.6 x 4000 / 60 = 1773 meters.

map reading shows 1800 meters.

I have tried it on a variety of ships, it gives you the exact range within 10%.
Thanks for that!

Now I can use the TDC with complete manual measurements and don't need the default SH3 tool in the upper right corner of the attack periscope.

But as I also don't like to use a calculator everytime (for realism reasons ), I've created some attack distance charts, smiliar to the charts you find in Wolfpack.

One version is for the default LSH x10 zoom and the other for x6 zoom for people who edited their cameras.dat

Distances are in meters!

Hello dear SUBSIM friends

It was a long time ago that I wrote something here.
Life takes strange paths.

Corona brought me back to L/SH3 in 2020.
We have been working on the new LSH3 Supermod version for months, and it is almost finished.

Supermod "Living Silent Hunter 3 - Edition 2020" will be released soon!

I thank all people who were and are loyal to us.
Above all THE BERBSTER!
And everyone else who has supported us in SUBSIM for years.

Soon there will be more news to read here. Just be patient.
Then we start together «The Final Attack» 2020!

Greetings and health from Urmel from Basel 😊
