Sorry I don't remember the details and I'm just about to rush out of the house, but in a recent thread in the Cold Waters discussion group over on Steam, KFG pointed to the txt control file that controls the sonar signatures displayed on the signature panel.

You are looking for the THEATRE_sea_traffic.txt file in the default/campaign/maps folder.
Last entry is OtherVessels

Ok, so tried to change it around to get the contacts in, and A) they didnt add, B) still cant use the buttons to change the ship type under the signals and C) I cant space bar through the cutscenes any more....

I will maybe try a fresh install and go from scratch...
